The Cubs won 97 games and made it all the way to the NLCS during year 4 of their rebuild. Will the Sox even be a 500 team next year?

How did the Cubs do it?  Magic? Harry Potter Wizardry? Good ol fashioned New Orleans voodoo?

Big FA contract to Lester, really lucky with Arrieta and traded really good talent in Torres for domestic abuser Chapman.

Stole Rizzo.  Stole Russell (before he went to the dark side), got a #2 in Hendricks that was totally unexpected.   Contreras developed into one of top five catchers in baseball after being an afterthought (see Santos, Sergio).

It’s the White Sox. He will probably still start with Charlotte, get hit on the hand with a pitch, and miss 6-8 weeks.

Or not be with the team for Opening Day and piss off everyone who bought tickets with that mistaken notion...bet the ticket office is being inundated by that query.

It could have happened to us too.  Spending money can pay off.  😥

Well, he was second on the club in fWAR to Abreu last year, unless Anderson or Moncada snuck in there ahead of him.

If Collins and Zavala can't hack it, and we can't convert on Grandal against 10-12 teams...then what's the solution at catcher besides missing out on Rutschman in the draft?  Take a chance on Langoliers instead?

His pitch framing is already markedly improved this year, according to a lot of scouts who follow the AL West.

Notice I didn’t say “really” good talent but a 27 year old catcher with a .794 OPS can be considered “good” talent.  I’d rather have him as a backup catcher than McCann.

Yes, if there two top catching prospects suck they'll have to look elsewhere. I didn't realize that was news.

You know who wasn't the answer at catcher going forward? Omar Navarez.

That's pretty much exactly what they said about Marcus Semien, Tyler Flowers and Eduardo Escobar.  They turned into above-average major league players, if the White Sox simply would have exercised a little bit of patience and actually invested time and effort into tutoring them.

Well, you know...if we ACTUALLY had a slew of 2-3 fWAR complementary players to build around the young core, then we would be a playoff-contending team, if they can get some stability out of the starting rotation (which is now predicated on either Cease or Kopech being TOR starters).

Avi and Narvaez fell into this same range, I think Avi was above it in 2018.

What have we developed in the past two years?    Daniel Palka?   Please don't argue Adam Engel.

Marcus Semien had 3.7 WAR last season, which is almost double the WAR of any player on the White Sox last year... But yeah, who needs that?

And he was actually injured and power numbers were dramatically down...which goes to show that his defense has moved well above and beyond "career utility guy/supersub."

Yes, Semien had one decent year. He was a nothing prospect - once again - that the Sox helped develop into an MLB player. Losing him has no impact on the team today, and is not something any other fan base would dwell on.

The number is high but at the end of the day whether he signs for 30 million or 43 million doesn't matter much. What will determine whether this contract makes sense is his play.

It's not high at all.

They just signed him for 8 years and 77 million. His 2 FA years alone, if he pans out, could be worth 60+ million.

Just give up while you’re behind.  Semien also could have been dealt for another young prospect instead.  It’s not like the Sox make all the right moves (see Tatis Jr.).

Tatis Jr was a nothing prospect at the time. Losing him has no impact on the team today, and is not something any other fan base would dwell on.
