With the season starting Thursday, it's time to talk predictions.  What do we see happening this year...good or bad?  Any surprises?

Moncada has a much better season but still has plenty of room to grow.  Bats .260 with 25 HRs and 28 SBs.  Plays a solid 3B

Abreu has his best season since his rookie year.  .307, 34 HRs, 105 RBIs

Giolito struggles early but slowly pitches better as the season goes.  Still ends up with an ERA close to 5.

Leury stays healthy and impresses.  Bats .265, steals 25 bases

Eloy has an up and down season but overall does well.  Sends 30 baseballs into the seats.

Surprise: James McCann outperforms Castillo.

Rodon finally shows he can anchor a staff by staying healthy

Lopez is our best starter

Giolito improves as the year goes on

Nova, Santana outperform Shields from previous year and are average

Bullpen shines (Colome, Herrera, Burr, Covey, Hamilton)

James McCann released in June

Abreu bats .280's with 25-30 homers

Moncada bats .290 with 25 homers and 80 RBIs

Anderson bats .270 with 20 homers and 75 RBIs

Eloy hits 25-30 homers with a .300 AVG and 80-ish RBIs

Cease debuts in September

Moncada puts up an .850 OPS and makes the all star team.  He out OPS's Jimenez this year.

At some point,  Hamilton is the closer.

Cease is up in mid August.

Covey is sent down by mid May.

Lenyn Sosa is in the FS top 15 by mid-season.

Luis Gonzalez is a September call up.

Jay, Alonzo, Colome, and Herrera are all gone by the deadline.

Guillen gets fired before the end of the season.

Sox finish 2nd with 76 wins in the ALC.

I will put a good and bad scenario then choose one for you ...

Good scenario: Our rotation emerges as best in the division thanks in part to Coop and baseball starts to forget about the idea of "openers." All of our starters excel. ... Our bullpen also is best in division thanks in part to Coop, but also some talent on the staff. c.) Anderson makes All Star team. d.) Moncada makes all star team. e.) Abreu makes all star team. f.) Palka has another good year. g.) Eloy makes all star team and is top five vote getter for MVP. Sox because of all this have a bad April but after that go on a sizz and actually contend all year.

Bad scenario: Our rotation blows. Lopez is horrible, Rodon average and the new guy from Pitt abysmal. Our bullpen also blows because the closer sucks and it messes with the new Royals acquisition. Eloy is great but Timmy shows little progress, Moncada continues to be called out on questionable strikes by the umps and Abreu is on the decline. Eloy is the only bright spot; we finish last.

My pick: The Good scenario. Folks, thank goodness we have Coop cause this staff is gonna dominate the division, starters and pen. Inspired by the pitching, my above mentioned players WILL have all star seasons.

Sox contend, maybe even win pathetic division cause Cleveland has two good pitchers and that's it.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Alonso traded and Jay released, but, despite having a loaded bullpen in the system, I think Colome and Herrera are here to contend next year

If Hamilton is the closer than please have Burr be the set up guy. Even ESPN will have to acknowledge that.

I know this isn't the annual "bold" predictions thread but I'll make some of that nature:

-Moncada has a 100 walk season and leads the team in OBP

-Eloy misses about half of the season due to a knee injury but puts up a .915 OPS

-Giolito ensures that he will not make the 2020 Opening Day roster with his performance

-Blake Rutherford has a slugging percentage lower than his on base percentage

-Basabe comes back in late May but struggles mightily and never gets in a groove all year

-Zack Collins finds his power stroke in Charlotte and puts up monster numbers

-Luis Robert is the #1 prospect in all of baseball by the end of the year

ESPN has the Sox at 24. Not surprising the AL teams are bunched at the top and bottom of the power rankings. I have no optimism but expecting improvement. I will go with Palka hitting 30 homers and 90 rbi. Giolito to the bullpen. TA becoming a near-impact guy. Team spirit and bunting.

Castillo is worse than Narvaez last year and McCann is a terrible backup C.
Abreu bounces back to pre-2018 form
Yolmer is the exact same player as last year
Anderson too
Moncada doesn't finish in the top 10 in baseball in K rate and is a borderline All-Star
Eloy wins ROY
Engel/Jay combine to be the worst CF in the MLB
Palka turns into a pumpkin and hits ~.200 with 14 HRs before being sent down to AAA
Alonso is a competent major leaguer

Rodon stays mostly healthy, but doesn't take a step forward
Lopez has similar ERA and W-L as last year, but his peripherals improve
Giolito proves himself to be worthy of being in an MLB rotation
Nova is approximately James Shields
The 5th stater spot is awful until Cease gets the call in late August

The bullpen is bad

Good:

Moncada and Anderson keep improving.

Eloy goes .275 33 hr 92 rbi

Giolito has an era in the mid 4's

Bullpen is solid

Palka gets 30 dingers

Jimmy Lambert gets some starts in the bigs this year.

Bad:

Abreu continues to decline

Lopez and Rodon are more 3 & 4's than 1 and 2's

Engel is still the starting CF in September

Palka still isn't passable in the OF

The Sox win 73 games

Giolito will have a decent year. Rodon avoids the DL, also has a good year. Lopez turns out to be a back of the rotation guy.

Santana doesn't make it the whole year due to either injury or ineffectiveness.

Engel's bat improves, he is let go anyway.

Eloy does not live up to the hype in his first year. Repeat performance from Moncada.

Avi Garcia has himself a nice season for the Rays.

Jimenez hits 28 HR's, 84 RBI's with a solid .278 AVG.

Abreu bounces back and maintains a .300 AVG and 100 RBI's, but only hits 26 HR's.

Moncada joins the 20/20 club and finishes under 200 K's.

Rondon ends the season as the starting 2B, hits 16 HR's. Yolmer becomes the backup IF.

Jay is DFA by early-June.

Alonso is traded at the deadline after leading the team in HR's the first half. We end up b****ing about how bad the return is, and convince ourselves Call was a better prospect.

Madrigal ends the year in Charlotte.

Nate Jones either gets DFA'd in August, or gets hurt and misses most of the season.

Hansen completely falls off the prospect radar.

Steel Walker forces himself into the top 10 Sox prospects.

Ok, here's my take.

Sox go 73-89 after a hot start.

Lopez is lights out, Rodon is fantastic. Nova does what he was paid for and eats innings.

Giolito bombs, ends up getting sent back to Charlotte. Santana also bombs, ends up getting DFA'd.

The Front office panic, make a play for Keuchel, misread the market and lose out on him to the Orioles.

They panic again and then overpay for Kimbrel who they don't need at this point.

Jones gets traded at the deadline and ends up on the IL for the rest of the year, a week after he's traded.

Colome and Herrera, after performing so well over the first couple of months, barely get save opportunities afterwards and decide to purchase sun loungers for the bullpen, soaking up the sun for the rest of the year.

Moncada goes on the IL after pulling a hamstring. He goes on a tear for a couple of months but starts getting intentially walked and pulls it on the trot to first.

Yolmer goes on the IL with Pneumonia after soaking himself too often with Gaterade.

Castillo gets banned for steroid use, again and Seb is called up, who starts raking it.

Abreu keeps telling everyone that he wants to stay with the Sox, hits 40 homers and ends up signing with the Dodgers in Free Agency.

Renteria is hailed as the messiah by the Hahalliams FO bot and a statue is built in his honour.

Jerry dies, the whole of Soxtalk celebrate but he still refuses to sell the team and comes back to life as a zombie. Eating all the free agents who the Hahalliams bot fail to sign.

Dylan Cease, Zack Collins and... Luis Robert all get the call for the Sox.

Moncada hits 24 homers.

Anderson bats over .260 with 20+ HRs and 30+ SBs.

Reynaldo Lopez gets 15 wins and gets signed to an extension mid season.

Eloy hits 30+ HR and gets 85+ RBI.

The Sox are buyers at the deadline.

Lucas Giolito has a sub 5 ERA (bold prediction)
