They don't have anybody good, so they go to an opener, who starts the game off on a good note. he Sox treat a game started by Giolito or Chris Sale exactly like they treat a game started by Manny Banuelos or Despaigne or whoever. They expect them to go 6 to 7 regardless of how many they give up. Completely inflexible thinking that will keep them from being a championship club unless they have overwhelming talent. The Yankees have won every game they've used the opener. I'm not sure the Sox have ever triedit. Ricky values his ability to use 4 guys in the 8th too much to experiment.
