Evaluating whether Palka has enough of a power tool to be a decent LH platoon DH is not a terrible thing. If he doesn’t, I would rather waste 40 ABs and find it out this year while it’s meaningless and never see him again. It’s like Rondon. Thank god he is sealing his fate now rather than leaving us with some borderline call.

you didnt say that detwiler was a good pick up for today but you said that Herrera was a bad one.

Don’t be obtuse.  Herrera was given $18 million and Detwiler is making the minimum.  Big difference.  Hererra was a pickup that Hahn made to help this team win.  Detwiler is a minor league scrub who is only pitching because all of Hahn’s other starting pitching acquisitions this past offseason were complete and utter failures.  Detwiler won’t even be on the team next year.  He is eating meaningless innings.

No one should applaud Hahn for the fact that his 15th starting pitcher option in Detwiler is in our rotation.  It’s more of an embarrassing indictment than anything positive.  However, Herrera and his 7+ ERA will still be around next season eating $9 million of the Sox payroll.  Great signing, Rick!

No doubt. I just don't think he's a lead off hitter for a contender. That's all

Do lead-off hitters on contending teams do more than score well over 100 runs, hit 30+ doubles, and steal 15-20 bases?  Because that’s what Leury is on pace to do this season.

Couldn’t watch, how did Detwiler look overall? Decent or lucky?

Like someone that knows how to pitch.  Good tempo/mixed pitches well/no walks/didn't look like a deer caught in the headlights. Want to see more of this guy.  Much more polished than most of the callups we see.

Not being obtuse, nice word by the way. Just pointing out that be went out of to criticize a player that struggled who was a recent acquisition but didn't praise the player who played well who was also a recent acquisition.

Whose to say that next year when they will be trying to win that Herrera wint be better. Bullpen pieces are fickle. Dont penalize him for next year when it hasn't happened yet.

What should give us hope, regarding Herrera, is that his fast ball still has good velocity. It might just be "rust," resulting in a loss of command. I remember earlier in the year, he had a nasty breaking ball. Was it a slider, or a cutter?

Nice to see a little Taoism to class up the board.  It’s really true.  I know the Sox are selling the future, but part of the joy is living today.  I hope Eloy hits another homer and that the Sox win today.
