Pax staying on as a senior adviser (but again...follows narrative that Pax would do as much / little as he wanted).

Hopefully, it's just paid retirement. They did a lot more change than I ever figured they would, so I am quite pleased even if I am not too familiar with the new regime.

The bulls are graduating from being a mom and pop shop to an organization. There are a lot of advantages there, and I do think their limited bandwidth hurt them in trade market.

Now let's hope it's a well run organization, but I'm feeling very positive. It is as close to a clean house as you can get considering the multiple asst. gms coming in.

Nothing is funnier today than Boylen sending a press release to congratulate the Reinsdorfs on hiring AK 😂

I don't know, Gar getting slapped down is pretty good.

I don't know if you read Cowley last week. Was the typical bulls airing of the laundry, but I guess when the bulls honored Luol Deng last nov a bunch of former bulls were at the game and Forman was "aloof" toward them, angering the players. Word got back to reinsdorf and apparently that was the moment big reinsdorf removed Gar's protection.

That moment and the all star game chant were apparently the things that got everything moving.   Imagine being embarrassed enough to make a move not because your team has been stuck in the mud for over four years with middling to awful results(some on purpose some not) with a joke of a coach, but rather because the fans embarrassed you on national television. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you are an aspiring GM though that has to seem like a pretty big advertisement for the job!

Except for this doesn't align to what has been reported. Maybe that was the straw that told the Reinsdorf's they would get rid of Gar. But Paxson apparently went to the Reinsdorf's in December (well before the All Star Game) and told them basically that the front office had failed, hadn't kept up with the evolving NBA and that they were too stuck in their ways at this point to make the necessary changes (I think this was more that everyone has too many ties to the equation and therefor unable to make the necessary changes). I also think Paxson was tired of his role, etc and he told the Reinsdorf's he would do whatever they needed but they should make the change.

Basically Paxson fell on his own sword to drive this change.  It is why he is still around as a special adviser too because that is pretty rare and it shows he cares for the organization and he realized that a change at the top (and throughout) was needed.

None of what they are saying of Paxson right now jives with anything that actually happened.  Dude doubled down on everything, said everything was going as planned, had no plans to step away.  cowley said the all star game is what started everything, so I guess you can disagree with his reporting.

I can't argue with you anymore about the old regime, me and you clearly see things way different.   I can't wait until this roster is gutted and they actually work like a real franchise

What they said to the public, and what was said behind closed doors doesn't always agree.  We know JR teams will sell a story to the public, even if not wholely true.

Exactly - Pax knew what was going on the whole time. Doesn't mean he is going to straight up say it to the media. They were laying all the groundwork for the eventual search at the All Star Game.  And I am very excited at who they have brought in and how they are going about this change. My caveat is, I wasn't thrilled with the 3 leaked names the Bulls are looking at from a GM perspective (hopefully this is an initial list and we see better names emerge).  Lloyd was the best one (and obviously was very successful in Chicago)...but whether to his own fault or not, Orlando has not exactly excelled during his tenure there.

Marc Eversley of the Philadelphia 76ers, Mark Hughes of the Los Angeles clippers and Matt Lloyd of the Orlando Magic.

Obviously he hasn't been as successful in Orlando,  but Matt Lloyd is the reason they drafted Taj and Butler, and I think Noah as well. Those picks and no brainer DRose, were the feathers in scouting God Gar's hat. Once Lloyd left, Teague was the next selection.

I think Hughes is a good pick. He was credited with drafting a lot of the knicks successes, and then the clips around the time they hired him were among the best functioning orgs in the game, so clearly he was well respected.

The one worry is some of these Knicks connections (cause LOL...Knicks).  Hughes I actually like (and Clipppers front office is very diverse and obviously just having the logo to learn from is awesome) and Lloyd obviously had a ton of success with Chicago so maybe it is more of an issue that Orlando just has more macro challenges that in his role, Lloyd can't address.

We'll never know, but it is notable for how much nyk kept cleaning house that each new group kept him around and promoted him before he finally left for greener pastures.

The Knicks have also been one of the few more dysfunctional front offices than the Bulls.  There were a lot of power struggles and internal politics that were happening there, and a lot of basketball intellect that has been bad even by Bulls standards over the last decade or so.

"And you're an ambassador for the Bulls, is that right?"

"I was," Pippen responded. "I got fired this year. I didn't really want it to be in the public, but I'm no longer employed by the Bulls."

...

"It's probably a good thing, right?" Pippen said to Greenstein. "I like to associate myself with winning."

Michael Finley wasn't on the original list of GM candidates from Woj, however, Cuban was interviewed and he seemed to imply the Bulls had asked for permission and gave a nonchalant answer.  Seemed to imply that Cuban would support Finley. This is different than Riley who is blocking all of his guys from interviewing with Bulls (maybe because he has bigger plans for them in his front office or because he just has a grudge from the Jordan era).  He should be thankful, its because of the glory Bulls that the term 3 peat (which he coined) became a thing.

Of course Riley thought it would end up being the Magic led Lakers who had its 3 peat...but you know...Jordan :)
