We need a win, so naturally I decided to post tonight's game thread. Dylan Cease versus Glenn Sparkman.

Watch how hitters react to Cease's curve and slider. There hasn't been enough of a sample size yet, but it is something to watch.

Something to focus on with the offense is their inability to elevate the ball. Since the ASB, they’ve struck out 32 times and have 38 groundball outs compared to 17 flyball outs.  Guys like Abreu and Eloy are just pounding the ball into the ground.

Another pitcher with a losing record and a high ERA facing the Sox tonight. Maybe they'll get more than two runs.

More like the opposing pitcher going 7+ giving up 5 or less hits and stiking out 8, while allowing 1 or fewer runs

This is year 1,000 of this damn rebuild and there are 3 players (yes Tim is hurt) that are guaranteed to be part of the team if/when they're good.  That's a freakin joke.

You can count Cease and Giolito as of right now, so that makes 5.

Lopez is a maybe.

Robert and Madrigal are close. Breathe.

Thats two more that you could count on than the 2014 Cubs or Astros, it's also only year 3. Next year it will be at least 4 guys, probably 5, and possible even 6. I think this team is a lot close to arriving than many give it credit for.

don't start that optimism stuff. When players slump or get hurt they never return to form.

You can't compare those rebuilds.  The Cubs and Astros were way more at aggressive/motivated at aquiring talent. The Cubs spent what $300M on pitching.  Reinsdorf would spontaneously combust if he spent that much on anything let alone pitching.

Also this is like year 7 of the rebuild.  They only started trying to lose 3 years ago.

I’m not arguing semantics with you. The fact is 3 years since starting to trade everything with a pulse, their lineup is in a similar position( I say better) as the notable successful tear downs 1 year before starting to win a lot of games

That isn’t to say there isn’t work to be done, but they are in a good spot.

They rebuild didn't start until they traded away sale. up to that point it was just trying to fill in around what players they had.
