My realistic offseason:

sign stratsburg ( 370M / 4 years )

sign Rendon ( 422M / 8 years )

sign Wheeler for ( 217M / 5 years )

sign Grandal ( 145M / 3 years )

trade Fernando Tatis JR. from San Diego for Mookie Betts to our Sox.

... Lineup ...

CF - Robert

2B - Moncada

RF - Betts

LF - Eloy

3B - Rendon

1B - Abreu

C - Grandal

SS - Anderson

DH - Madrigal

SP1 - Stratsburg

SP2 - Giolito

SP3 - Wheeler

SP4 - Cease

SP5 - Lopez / Kopech

*Important note... make each contract above be for $1.00 a year for the first two years and then in 2023 file for bankruptcy protection*

I dunno if Rendon is gonna give us a discount.

I know I shouldn’t let this happen, but comments like this make believe some real shit is going to happen.

I've barely been active here for a couple months because I'm trying to avoid a repeat of last offseason. But I'm sort of with you, all the buzz this week is bringing me back. Not expecting Cole/Stras/Rendon types, but cautiously optimistic that the money will be spent.

I feel the same exact way, although a very small part of me feels like the Sox will make a run at one of the big three.  Definitely not banking on that though.

Hard to really trust anything Boras says pertaining to negotiations and signings.

The piece about how the sox are viewed was interesting and not necessary.

If your job was to leverage the most money out of roughly 18-20 teams (collectively, that would be willing to bid on at least one frontline Boras talent) for each one of your clients...what would you do differently?

As @caulfield12 just pointed out Boras' comments are meaningless.   I'll believe the Sox will sign a A list FA when it happens.

Based on all of Hahn’s recent comments, here’s what I’m thinking they do:

  • Wheeler - 5/$105M
  • Grandal - 4/$72M
  • Abreu - 2/$28M
  • Gonzalez - 1/$7M
  • Smoak - 1/$5M
  • Collins, Stiever, & Walker for Haniger
  • Rutherford & Flores for Mychel Givens

Here’s how the roster would look:

  1. Robert, CF
  2. Moncada, 3B#
  3. Haniger, RF
  4. Grandal, C#
  5. Jimenez, LF
  6. Abreu, 1B
  7. Smoak, DH*
  8. Anderson, SS
  9. Madrigal, 2B
  • Bench: Mendick, Engel, Garcia#, McCann
  1. Giolito
  2. Wheeler
  3. Cease
  4. Lopez
  5. Gonzalez*
  6. Kopech
  7. Rodon*
  • Bullpen: Colome, Bummer*, Givens, Herrera, Fry*, Marshall, Cordero, Hamilton

That’s a legit playoff caliber team IMO and payroll should be around $130M which is more than doable.

I would agree that $130, which is a 50% jump,  is very realistic.  I think Haniger is somewhat a risk but his value is down because of it.

A Realistic Offseason should include Rule 5 candidates, and the list is out.  Yankees have two really good prospects on their list, Florial and Gil.  I would take Gil in a heartbeat and stick him in the bullpen for 2020.  This makes a lot more sense than the slugs the Sox had in 2019 bullpen.  The names are too numerous to mention.

Teams still have time to protect players

So we all are making offseasons of a top pitcher and top hitter.  Which would be ideal.  But would people HATE a SP heavy offseason?  I mean, would you really hate something like this:

Wheeler - 5 years 115 million

Ryu - 4 years 70 million

Delin Betances - 3 years 20 million

Encanacion - 1 year 12 million

Kole Calhoun - 1 year 7 million

Matt Wieters - 1 year 5 million

Abrue accepts QO

All hitters are 1 year deals.  Encarnacion is still a fantastic hitter but otherwise we are going into the season hoping Moncada, Eloy, Anderson, Robert, Madrigal and Abreu all produce at the same level or better essentially, which is risky.  We really upgraded the pitching a ton.  This is an offseason I could still get behind despite not getting Grandal or Castellanos or a different bigger name.
