Something I want everyone to know.

So for the last couple months I feel like I've done a lot of damage to my reputation as a poster. I've put a lot of things out there that I wish I didn't, and it took me until this weekend to realize what was going on. I'm pretty messed up right now.

Not only am I dealing with being on the autistic spectrum, I've been dealing with chronic pain for the better part of 20 years. About two years ago, it started to get really bad and it got so bad by the end of 2018 that I couldn't do anything anymore other than sit at home. I tried to fight through it as much as I could but it just kept getting worse.

In April, I decided to have surgery to hopefully correct my issues. I've been dealing with the after effects of it(Physical therapy and another surgery) for the better part of the last 6 months. I'm not handling it well. I haven't been able to do much of anything for 6 months. Even so, the PT isn't far enough along that I can work or go do things I enjoy yet. Please forgive me for being an uber grouch for the last 3 months or so because I'm pretty pissed off about how long this is taking and the rate of progress.

I'm going to try not to post angry anymore and sit on them for 30 mins before submitting. I'm a lot more testy and assholish than normal right now. I have just started to realize I've been posting angry way too much. Please be kind.

Cheers,

Parkman.

Sports are fun and all but if I were you I'd try to find some other hobbies where your mood cannot be affected by the outcome of games or how teams are managed.

Believe me, we're all as frustrated as you are that our teams are like this. But there's got to be a more positive thing you can do for your psyche then stew about it on message boards. Like Sunday, Bears lose, that effin blows. In my younger years I may have b****ed on message boards but now it's just on to the next thing for that day. I enjoy good sports conversation, hence why I am here, but there's no sense at all allowing festering negative thoughts to be shared unless you have to absolutely get it off your chest. Which shouldn't be necessary for something as trivial as sports games.

Don't worry so much about it -- back when they had the Filibuster here, I'd get suspended a few times a year, but they kept letting me return for more. ;)

If I had the mod option panel to do it I'd suspend you again just for fun.

Why don't you have it?! I'd have found it funny if I came back here today and found out I'd been suspended. lol

They probably didn't need your services anymore after they closed the 'Buster ... since your full time job was basically suspending me for being right all the time.

Damn I miss the buster.  Good times.

I do too. I misread it though. I thought you could pretty much post anything in the buster and be OK but I think one or two of my suspensions was caused by buster posts not sports related posts.

The buster got a lot of people in trouble, mostly because people could not be civil.  I don't know the ages of most of the posters but it did have a very youthful chaotic vibe which is sad.

The buster was one of the primary reasons I visited this site -- I still use it to keep up on Sox news, etc., just as I did back then -- but the Buster was where I actually posted and took part in the Soxtalk community. Not all conversations were civil, but overall, they were better than 99.9999% of the Internet in general. While I didn't always agree with everyone here, I at least respected their opinions, and they tended to come from a well-thought line of reason.

Compare that to the comments section anywhere else on the Net -- including practically any Reddit thread -- and you'll see the stark difference in what we had here with the Buster, vs what's available out there.

I wish they'd bring it back.

For many years Filibuster was my favorite part of this board.

In our current times it is more needed than ever.

That's actually a series of good points by Y2HH. The buster was great because as somebody who took the opposite position on most matters (being more conservative than liberal) I learned a lot from reading others' posts. There were a couple posters out to get me, accusing me of a whole batch of positions that I didn't actually hold. I think because of the harsh reactions to some posts, reactions to many of my posts and others, they had to kill it. It wasn't worth it because people were downright insane in their anger in the buster.

I think issues such as the riots in St. Louis and other cities got the blood boiling (people got mad at me for being furious at the disruption of traffic by the protestors) but it was educational to see different peeps' positions on stuff rather than everybody agreeing in some political lovefest in which everybody had to agree with each other.

I can see why they killed it though. This is a baseball board and a sports board.

I'm genuinely curious: why do you think this? What do you think us hashing our disagreements out in public actually helps? I much prefer that there can be places that are free from politics, where a bunch of guys from different walks of life can just talk about sports and not worry about the BS. Maybe that's just me.

I think that its important that people who are actually reasonable have an outlet to try and discuss topics and perhaps come up with resolutions. Different opinions are good. I can talk to myself If I just want my own thoughts.

And yes I do think discussing things in public helps. Especially at a place where some of us have been 20 years. Facebook, twitter, comments sections allow anonymity where there is no accountability. Here you have to stand by what you say, you know that years down the road people will remember if you were on the wrong side of history.

We need to find a better path and that begins with people talking.

I was somewhat with you until this point. What is the wrong side of history? I don't want to politicize this thread but if I stated what I wanted (which is far different from what you want) because I believe it is the best way to help people, what are you gonna do- mark me as the wrong side of history and hold it against me years down the road? I mean, if that's what you want to do, then do it, but don't act like it's helping us find a better path.

And the qualified "actually reasonable" is a bit weird. Who isn't reasonable? Who determines that? I'm pretty sure you've previously mentioned that college should be free and debt forgiven (please correct me if I'm wrong). Am I unreasonable if I don't feel that my taxes should go up to pay for someone else's degree? Am I to be left out of the conversation as a result? The point here isn't whether we agree- we don't and that's fine. But if you really want to discuss, then why qualify it and how are you going to determine those qualifications? I think, for example, socialism is an awful philosophy, but I'm not going to say, "Oh, a socialist? Well, you're not actually reasonable and I'll wait to discuss this and create resolutions with people who are."

If you were for slavery, youre on the wrong side of history. If you were for the holocaust, youre on the wrong side of history. I wasnt talking about anything necessarily current, just its good to have people on record for their beliefs. I think it holds people accountable.

OK, I'll take you at your word on the first one. There are definitive evils that have happened in history. As long as there's not some hyperbolic attempt to cheapen those evils by connecting them to normal things in the country today, then OK, fine.

Second, maybe that wasn't you, but the question is still valid. Who determines what is "reasonable" and what's not? If discussion is a good thing, then we should be able to discuss with anyone. Right?

In the end, everything is opinion. Reasonable is an opinion. I fight the trademark office on what reasonable is monthly  when they have a different opinion of whether a "reasonable" person would be confused by how similar a mark is.

All discussion could be a good thing, but some discussion is a waste of time. Anonymous arguments on the internet whether the other person isnt even willing to consider an opposing view is a waste of time and energy. But something needs to change, irrespective of what side of the fence you are on, the country seems to be going in a poor direction when it comes to trying to actually solve issues that our country faces.

Yeah, I've rubbed a lot of people the wrong way because of my (admittedly so) strong pro-labor and anti-managment stances. Plus I think that all economics is voodoo economics and that conventional wisdom on the subject is bullshit.

Despite what people might think, I think that capitalism is fine as long as businesses have a fucking conscience. Without a conscience, the system can't work as intended. It just cannibalizes itself and devolves into fascism.

I think that democracy is more important than any economic system. There are other people who think that capitalism is more important than any governmental structure.

The division in this country comes from people that think that their political beliefs have gone beyond opinion and into the realm of right vs wrong.

I will always think that human rights are a right vs wrong issue but I will concede opinion on other topics.

Agreed with these posters. I especially liked reading threads where I could learn from people who knew more about issues than I did so that I could see things from different points of view. Heading into an election year, having the Filibuster would be great in terms of education and discussion. But I understand why it went away.

I think now is the time.

I agree and there should be a short leash. There should be good debates and if there are personal attacks, there should be quick suspensions. This is an important election and I would welcome substantive discussion on the issues.
