It may be time for us to explore some new alternatives. What about Donaldson for first base? A 3 year 65 million dollar deal I would think would get it close. My idea would be for him to play 1B for 2020 and then move to DH. But yes, this would be tougher to convince Donaldson of that. I do see that point. Also, how much would it really knock him? I'm assuming he would be average (at worst) at first base, at that's me being conservative. Still a stud hitter. Donaldson is interesting, in that his position is not one of need, but his bat would be a welcome addition to the middle of our lineup. Eminor3rd Posted November 5, 2019 Share Posted November 5, 2019 I don’t see the point of overpaying an injury-prone, mid-30s third baseman to convince him to change positions to be a short term stopgap for two of our top prospects (Vaughn, Collins) when a short-term stopgap already exists (Jose Abreu) and is loved in the clubhouse.
