Chris Sale to start the year on the IL. Looks like getting a couple of good pieces for Betts might have been the right call.

He is starting the year on the DL because of the flu/pneumonia. Nothing to do with his arm.

The Yankees have lost: Judge, Severino and Stanton. Trading Betts was iditoic and absurd as the Red Sox would be within 2 projected wins of the Yankees without the move.

The idea of Chris Sale getting sick and losing 10 lbs is perhaps the most terrifying concept possible.

At the time you responded, I meant to say that I would be surprised if he didn't end up on the IL at some point this season because of his arm.

Sale is done; sad to see it. Always will like the guy and root for his dominance. His arm is broken it seems though; he wasn't even going anywhere near 100% and now they're seeking 3rd opinions which most definitely means the MRI was very bad. You don't seek third opinions to confirm good news.

One TJS doesn't mean a guy is done.

The Trade itself was great for the red sox. The extension might turn out bad but the 3 years they traded for were lights out, he was worth 17.4 war those 3 years.

Still a good trade for the sox even though moncada took longer than expected.

They got a World Series out of it.  They're super pleased with how that deal turned out.. BOTH teams should be pleased.

The present 2020 draft proposal would consist of five rounds and a 100K limit on upfront bonus money with the remainder deferred over two years. This would lead to prospects sitting out the draft and waiting for next year. Related issue would be getting another year of school eligibility. First comment is that MLBPA is not looking out for future members in this situation.

Technically, union shouldn't be looking out for them. At best these players wont be union members for 2 years and most will never be union members for any length of time.

Chris Archer should be available next year after having TOS surgery and sitting out this year. The Pirates have an $11M option for next year but their payroll is $60M. The recovery history with TOS is not strong. The Pirates are a sad mess.

Is that an ARod shot?  Did they have issues with each other?  I don't know that I heard that one before.

No - It was a shot out to a different rule being applied to Ken Griffey Sr. having his son (Ken Griffey Jr) on the field vs. Craig Nettles, who was allowed to have his son on the field. The directive came straight from Steinbrenner himself.  Was back when Griffey Jr. was a kid but rightfully drove a hatred for all things Yankees.  The article spells it out in good detail.

I totally missed it.
