One thing to consider is that Joc is absolutely useless vs. lefties. You have to platoon him, whereas Calhoun's splits are much more balanced. That being said, Joc is a much better hitter.

I'd be perfectly content to play Leury with a dash of Engel on the weak side of a platoon.

He just mashes RH pitching though.. And what percentage of pitching is RH?  70%?

Joc is a pretty low risk as well.  He's a platoon bat with 1 year before FA.  He shouldn't cost anything major and he's going to be worth around 3 WAR.

You get into the Hanigers and Nimmos etc, they are going to cost much better prospects and have real injury/downside issues.

I’d rather have Joc than Calhoun, but not by a gigantic amount since each would only be in one year deals.

hypothetically we add Grandal, Joc/Calhoun, Encarnacion, we will have added a ton of pop to our lineup and also retained future financial flexibility. Sprinkle in Wheeler plus a solid backend starter and a pen arm and we are cooking in 2020.

Gonzalez would be another obvious choice...as the highest hopes remain for Adolfo, Walker and hanging on to Rutherford one more year seems prudent since his trade value is already depressed.

That said, not sure why the Dodgers would want either of those two outfielders.

Perhaps Buehler has convinced them he sees something in his former Vandy teammate that’s fixable.

Well if renting a player off of 73 wins was debacle and massive failure in 2014, it takes a special baseball mind like that of Rick Hahn to repeat the failed practice in 2019 coming off of 72 wins.

Pass big time on 1 year rents.

I partially agree, but there are very different circumstances surrounding the similar win totals.

Holding onto all your prospects until they reach the point of no value is far more stupid.
