Free Agent relief pitcher ideas besides Betances

Trevor Hildenberger has a solid history, with a poor season last year.

James Hoyt is a veteran with a pretty good history.

Collin McHugh is a good fill in guy.

Addison Reed would be a nice guy to bring back as a set up guy.

Arodys Vizcaino is a potential set up man option.

McHugh would be nice, I think Reed actually may be retired, arm's shot

I'm a proponent of Will Harris as well, older but effective

Vizcaino would be interesting

The homegrown bullpen depth is interesting as well with Burdi and Hamilton coming back and Johnson rising to go along with Bummer and Fry...plenty other potential options too

McHugh has been my guy for a while. Great spin rate numbers. He can also start too just in case Sox have a ton of injuries on their pitching staff for even more insurance.

Yeah he would insulate the team’s dependance on Kopech, Cease and Rodon.

The free agent options after Betances (who just signed) are so old and bad that I’d rather see Hahn sign a 2-3 fliers like Cody Allen and see if one pans out.

Hudson and Harris are still going to be paid well.  Stammen is a good bounceback candidate....really solid but overused in first half, faded down the stretch.

Stammen isn’t even a bounceback candidate in this market.  He’s one of the better options available.  I’d rather see Hahn avoid spending big money on mid-30’s relievers and look for some diamonds in the rough on the cheap.

T.Walker as a swing guy to pair with Rodon as long as the money’s in the $4-6 million range with mutual option for next year would be interesting.   That way, they could also part ways with Rodon if he doesn’t look the same and even more insurance for the young starters.

Alex Wood will get more, arguably...whichever one looks like the best value and is suited for pen work or spot starting.

Both Walker and Wood will go for short-term “prove it” deals with teams that will use them in their rotation so they can try again for a payday next offseason.  I doubt either guy signs on to be relegated to a team’s bullpen.  The Twins are the perfect team for them.

It would seem like the number one bullpen need is a "long relief" type, or swingman. Maybe at the time Kopech comes up, Lopez can fill that role. This should be a guy who can do a sporadic spot start, give you three or four shutout innings after a starter departs early, and then can come back the next day for an inning. Do not know offhand what free agent could fill that role. McHugh? Possibly Hudson?
