tray Posted January 16, 2020 Share Posted January 16, 2020 (edited) The White Sox -Yankee game in the cornfields of Iowa this year should probably never have been allowed to move forward. but as they say, hindsight is 20/20. What was the idea....to strangely commemorate the impact that gambling had in 1919 ? Now, unlike 1919, wealth, greed and gambling are all so much more a part of what and who we are as Americans...not only the wealthy players, but greedy management, owners and the proliferation of the sports gambling industry. I am sick about players that participated in this, possibly including our own Dallas Keuchel. I'm not sure what mlb should do about it since the credibility of the game hangs in the balance until this gets resolved. At minimum, players who knew or participated in this scheme should be fined. I hate to become a conspiracy theorist but this cheating was so outrageous that it makes me wonder how far this went....did it possibly involve other players or other teams ...like the Twins. Maybe instead of the baseball being juiced the players just knew when they were going to get a pitch and loaded up for it. Yes, this makes fans wonder how far this went. Look at the Twins catcher who seems to have awoken as a power hitter for the first time after 6 years in the minors and 2 years in the majors. The Twins hit over 300 home runs including over 30 by him. Yea, say it ain't so, 'stros,. Maybe have a double header in Iowa between 'the Astros and Yankees. From what I've heard Manfred and MLB are in serious damage control right now and Manfred wants to keep things quiet as possible. I heard th eres possibility of up to 10 teams doing the same.. If you're going to strip anyone of anything, #1 on the list is that world series title. Unless they are willing to do that there's no good reason to pull away individual awards, as that title is the most contaminated part of this right now since we know 100% they were doing this to the Dodgers. If you watch for entertainment, it doesn't matter. If you consider PED and sign stealing equal in crimes, you shouldn't put everything on the outcomes of games. If I wanted something where one side was going to win based on something decided behind the scenes rather than the skill of the people involved, I could go be a wrestling fan. Kind of like gambling rule- you just don’t do it, because if you do, you’re gone. On the Astros thing, I think it’s something that starts off small, and then it eventually spirals out of control. It did, and now people have lost their jobs and everyone knows you can’t be in the batters box and actually know what’s coming with the aid of cameras...that isn’t sports. However, for the reasons I stated, it's not realistic. I would prefer that absolutely no cheating occurred ever, even with my students. However, with what's on the line, its just not realistic. However not everyone shares the same point of view. Some say let everyone do whatever they want and it's a fair playing field. I would like there to be absolutely no cheating but with all that's on the line, it's just not realistic. When caught however, the punishment should fit the crime.
