And for those who want to dictate the acceptability for how people deal with grief and tragedy, I'm already dealing with it in a few ways. First, my grandpa is in an ICU right now with pneumonia. I can't see him because of my exposure to the public via my job and I'll most likely never see him again. Also, if this escalates in the way I anticipate, it will most likely collapse my business. We simply can't afford to be inoperable for an extended period of time. Everyone working in the service industry will be in dire straights financially.

I'm also self quarantining because I've been in the Prudential numerous times over the last week and I play poker in casinos several times a week.

This is awful. Sorry for you, bud.

I know the feels. My mom just had bypass in September and is having a followup procedure in early April. I was going to travel to Chi to help her out, but I can't. And honestly, I'm a bit scared for her spending that much time in a place where "infected patients" will be as well as those caring for them.

There are ways to protect yourself; there would be even more if they pass a damn bill.

I don't know much about what you do, but just know that there is hope and opportunity to maintain your business through a time of shutdown that is not within your control.

For starters, review your insurance agreements and seek out your act of god clauses; see if there were any worked in protections on that side. There are other things as well. I hope it works out. Small businesses can't survive months of construction typically; let alone months of social distancing. There are ways to limit your liability to weather the wave though.

The what?

Obviously not an Avengers fan. In one of the movies a guy named Thanos randomly killed 1/3 of the universe because he believed it was overcrowded and was getting to a tipping point.

(The US is on a nearly identical trajectory to Italy right now)

That mortality rate In Italy is alarming to say the least.......

Ok guys, asking for advice: should I go to my chess club tonight or stay home?

What would you do? It's held in a community center so I'm a bit nervous.

WTF? Haven't you been complaining about people going out into public unnecessarily?

Yeah, and I'm strongly leaning against it.

I have anxiety issues and again I'm wondering if I'm overreacting here. Small group of people that I know.

It doesn't matter, I've already decided to stay home anyway.

One second you're telling people here that this virus should be taken very seriously, and one second you're wondering if you're overreacting.

That's what anxiety does to you. It fucking blows.

I've made the decision to stay home already.

Chess players really don't come into contact with other humans anyway, do they? (jk i love the game too.)

I would probably avoid going to chess club for the peace of mind.

I'm hoping they cancel my plant soon. I work with over 2300 people and I've seen quite a few of them not wash their hands after using the bathroom (disgusting) plus we work with alot of chemicals and such... and that's not even counting the rats/roaches we see.
