My proposed Idea is to send the kids back to school. But Betsy Devos has presented the perfect option of having school choice, so if you are willing to send your child to school, do it. And if not, use a different option you find appropriate.  Common sense.  Be American, do what's best for your family and don't oppress others with communist democrat ideas.

DeVos is the biggest idiot ever to hold a cabinet position. When asked for a real plan, she could not come up with one. Just a bunch of platitudes about the "private sector." She comes from privilege and has no idea what everyday people go through. Now, that's really American.

Would be nice if there was a competent group that could make a program to take advantage of the college student population who is now taking online courses, and use them as a daycare resource. Create grants for the families to pay for it, students get grants for tuition, and Schools would be required to create schedule flexibility for these students in the program. Schools have easier time getting paid full tuition.

childcare/stimulus/higher ed bailout.

I have a college student cousin that is doing child care for us over the summer, the problem is, even though her classes are online next semester, the school is making the students show up on campus.  I have no idea why, I assume so they have to pay room and board.

Caulfield gonna blow your mind on this one - in America people hire individuals to come to their house and pay them hourly to watch their kids. They even do it with kids as young as 13 to come and watch their kids, and pay them $12-$18/hr.

There was even a documentary on it:

I've seen this comparison made a few times on here, I don't think its a great comparison.  I think you could say it like this....

The option is like driving in icy road conditions.  You are putting yourself and others on the road at risk that you might crash into them or vice versa.  Anyone who gets in their car is taking a risk, but you aren't putting others at risk who are trying to play it safe and stayed home.

Most people agree with Betsy Devos, partisanship aside. She has been a great advocate for improvement in our education system.

The people who are playing it safe and staying home are still impacted by the larger societal and economic damage from the reckless behavior, though. The more our politicians allow reckless behavior, the deeper and longer this thing goes. The more people engage in reckless behavior, the deeper and longer this thing continues. And since nobody is 100% contact free (you still need groceries and essentials even if you're otherwise entirely shut in, or you may need medical care but oops the ICU is full), there's still increased risk of exposure.

Much of the world got this epidemic under control using these nefarious "communist democrat ideas," and now their whole societies are safer and can more freely engage in normal activities, even if things are a ways from completely normal there. We have a raging uncontrolled epidemic that's once again severely taxing our medical resources and still driving over a million people to file for unemployment every single week.

This isn't about individual choice, because those individual choices impact everyone else.

That is ... weird? Maybe in person proctoring of exams ?

I still think its just a sensible resource to tap. Many already have child-watching experience and connections to kids/families due to summer nanny jobs.

Especially with the restrictions on au pairs.

Many college kids summer-nanny, but they would also be watching kids who have school and often have parents home. That's not that difficult.

Quote

RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS

Voters say more than 2 to 1, 61 - 29 percent, that they disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling the re-opening of schools.

They also say 2 to 1, 62 - 31 percent, that they think it will be unsafe to send students to elementary, middle, or high school in the fall.

A slightly smaller number, 59 - 34 percent, say they think it will be unsafe to send students to college in the fall.

Doing it in the summer vs. doing it with a full course load for 40+ hours a week for limited pay. Not sure how many takers you'd have.

e: not saying it's a terrible idea just there's some hurdles/limitations to think about. could be helpful even if not a full measure.

Protecting them by forcing them to remain jobless?  We're the government, and we're here to help you by making sure the only way you make money is if we provide it to you.

This administration couldn't care less about kids' education with going back to school. After all, these are the people who have turned their backs at science, and have no use for US intelligence, so what good is going to school to them? . It's all about the parents going back to work.

What?

Forcing them? You know what a demand shock is? People arent going out. People arent buying things. People lose jobs because revenue is down because a virus is killing people all across the country.

The economy cannot repair itself until the public health crisis is fixed. When people like you start dying, we can start moving forward as a nation who gives a fuck about people again.

Because of the federal response, which was slow, and then Trump thought it would be a good time to play Celebrity Apprentice-Governors  edition, and pitted states against each other to increase prices and screw up the supply chain for PPE to our front lines,  and have no federal response, the US is not in position like most other countries to open up, so yes, they probably should be printing more money now and handing it out to people who cannot work right now.

There are plenty of people that have jobs while they are in college.  And most of those jobs don't pay very well.

Dude.  Not sure wishing death on other people is a good way to demonstrate that you "give a fuck about people".
