What will Yermin have to do for people to take his potential seriously?

Hit in the majors. If he doesn't get that chance, it's unfortunate. He's a 27 year old career minor leaguer who profiles as a DH only. I don't know what's going to happen with him. It is quite possible he never gets an opportunity in MLB.

Let him hit. Collins is a way better trade prospect anyway for whatever reason. Send collins down to catch aaa. He will never get a shot anyway to be the Sox full time catcher. McCann stays till deadline giving Grandal plenty of time off early on and Mercedes can catch twice a week. The dude can rake. Let him have a shot. If EE Suddenly gets old then he can spot in for him. I will say it’s nice that the Sox had few catcher options and now seem ok at the spot with a chance to improve in the draft.

go hit for an 950 OPS in Charlotte for three months.  Improve a ZIPS projection around replacement level.  Prove he can play a position other than DH?  Any other questions?

there isn't a pitcher in MLB that would be OK pitching to Mercedes.  Have you seen his few innings this spring back there?  He makes Collins look like Johnnie Bench.

Dude look at these stats.  8 balls back to the backstop (one passed ball, lol, nice scorekeeping) in 24 innings caught.  0-2 throwing out runners.  Non fucking starter as a catcher.

He had an OPS of 1.033 in Charlotte in 53 games last year. Not good enough?

BTW, shame on Rick Hahn for not have given Yermin an extended look last September.   Especially with the pile of ass he had up here taking ABs to close out the season.    Maybe you would have found a DH then and avoided looking for one in the offseason.

This I agree with.

This times a million. It is embarrassing that Yonder and AJ Reed got looks at DH as long as they did. Yermin deserved a shot.

Unfortunately not.  A solid start but not enough to move the needle given his age and inability to play a position.  As everybody else noted he should have gotten more ABs at the MLB level last year.  Reed and Palka are dead enders.
