As far as I am aware, humans have not yet discovered a way to eliminate all illiness from the world.  Fortunately, these guys are asymptomatic.  An MLB player is far more likely to be killed driving to the ballpark than they are from Covid.  Play on!

That’s because they’re not “licensed to ill“ like the Beastie Boys.

Its not a fallacy.  The players will likely be fine.  Good luck eliminating all risk ever.

You realize there is a vast universe between 140k dead and "eliminating all risk ever".  I mean, if you want to claim you aren't dealing in fallacies, you might at least try to hold off on them for at least one post.

Kinda wild that this is happening. European leagues finished their seasons or in the process of doing it without issue.

Their countries got it under control far more than us, so they were going to have fewer cases coming in. Furthermore, they did have issues. For example, one team from Bundesliga was quarantined entirely for 2 weeks.

Anectodal vs. Statistics.

Go with the anecdotal!

4 million cases and 140k+ deaths isn't anecdotal.  Neither is pretending death is the only adverse outcome.  You might not think of athletes as people, but they are.  They aren't just trained monkeys for your entertainment who can be sacrficed for that purpose.

I've been going to work every day for the past couple months along with millions of other Americans.  I don't think we are trained monkeys either.

It's not really.  The rest of the world made the sacrifices needed to beat this.  We half assed it and pretended it didn't exist.  Obvious outcome is obvious.

Yes, but in the event they are not, playing baseball isn't worth dying over. Not all the players are asympotmatic.

You can say that about literally any job. Is accounting worth dying over? Of course not, very few things are worth dying over. Yet life is still going on. Everyone has bills to pay.

By that line of thinking, we should never have sports again.

Your line of thinking is exactly the reason why this country has seen almost 150k deaths from this virus. It should have been half that if we only would've operated even partially like many of the other countries that have limited the spread and/or eradicated themselves from it.

But no, no, no, we can't show some good ol' self discipline and sacrifice for a couple months. People still have the right to go to Home depot breathing all over everyone else and go to bars and drink next to their fellow American because its the American way.

I think of Publix shelf stockers as people too. They’re working.

Sure, but as long as people continue to insist this is no big deal and that we shouldn't contain it as much as possible, the risk for actually essential workers like grocery store staff increases.

And if you don't want to wear a mask or follow the rules, it just makes everything take longer. There is a reason the US is in the postion it is in. Our "leadership" wanted to make acting in a safe fashion a political issue. The players haven't been following the guidelines. Sounds very familiar. And now trouble follows.

Mask wearing is much more common here than in many European countries that alreay have their outbreaks under control lol.  The UK just introduced mandatory masks last week, well after their curve was flat.

The players will be fine.  Play on!
