I mean this should have been clear all along after the injuries started setting in. I said it on the trade deadline, and will say it again. This team isn't currently "one player" away. There was no one they would get at the deadline to get them over the top. Their best window is still a year or two away. Management tried to move it up with their off season signings, but the main part of the window is still in the future as the pitching gets here and matures. With one more pitcher they had a pretty good chance of doing some damage. Now it's a toss up at who's starting. The main issue is Cease hasn't taken the next step yet. We don't know that he won't take the next step and it is WAY to early to come to that conclusion. Again, we have proof that pitchers can figure this out after an extended time of failure at the major league level.
