I know it is a popular sentiment, but I would give up on the idea that we are resigning McCann.  Just about everything to do with our roster construction means that McCann isn't going to get the playing time he is going to want.

Nor can they afford to put more resources toward that position. Someone will pay him starting AS caliber money and he should take it.

Grandal just plays 1B instead of DH (shift Abreu to DH) when McCann catches and its not a problem.  But Ricky seems intent on Grandal only playing 4-5 games a week, which is super fuc*ing dumb, but its Renteria so not surprising.

One of them needs to play 4-5 games a week. Guess which one? The bright shiny new toy that Hahn gave the largest FA contract in Sox history to. If you think Renteria has the sole say in this, you aren't paying attention to modern baseball.

Yeah, there's no such thing as a "sunk cost" here, especially insofar as JR is concerned.

I think you need to find a solution for collins. He is 25 now and having him as a third catcher/second DH is neither helping his development nor helps the roster a lot.

Either you find a spot on the roster where he can get at least like 400 PAs in a full season by for example trading McCann and make him second catcher/second DH or you just trade him now as long he still has any value.

The sox made a huge mistake by not giving him a full go in 2018. The just should have given him full ABs and make it sink or swing, either he makes it or he is a bust but you can't let him hit twice a week for 3 straight seasons.

McCann isn’t coming back next year, so Collins is currently set to be the backup catcher.  That could obviously change though.

Yeah, I don’t pay any attention. Lol.

Playing Grandal 4-games 5 a week is super dumb. He needs to be the 1B or DH most days he isn’t catching.

They just released Herrera like weeks ago.  This meme should be dead by now.

Not necessarily. While the main reason he was let go was because he sucked, there was also an option that would have vested if he got a certain number of innings IIRC so there was also a financial (savjngs) component to the decision as well.

He is far from the only one.

Apparently not, if you can't see why Grandal is starting so much. McCann's playing time will further decrease without the third catcher on the roster. As a matter of fact, Hahn probably sent Collins down so McCann can't be in the lineup more. Now they have a good excuse to not play both at the same time.

They could still play both in the lineup, Timmy can always fill in at C if need be.

Huh? I’m saying Grandal should be in the lineup more, not less.
