This is nothing more than roster management.  Keuchel will be back to pitch 9/17 against the Twins, which RR said was the plan yesterday.

Thank you. We already knew this was happening he is just missing 1 start. Everyone here thinks the sky is falling.

This probably also gives us a chance to better line up Gio and Keuchel for 1 and 2 to start postseason

If the Sox make the playoffs and win it all without Dallas, it'd be the first time a team won it all with such a blah to horrid pitching staff. It'd be all offense and RR would be manager of the century. Dunning and Cease and Giolito have each had sensational moments but as a group should concern no opponent, at least at this stage. The bullpen also is hugely suspect again despite sensational moments.

Your only 2 options right now are Gio Gonzalez and Lopez. They don't have faith in Florez to start. If he does its only 3 innings max. Anybody else and they have to start playing with the 40 man roster (Earlier than they were planning) like Stiever or Crochet.

This.  It is an extra arm.  If he is getting called up this early, I am going to guess it means he WON'T starter, and is here as an extra innings eater.  Typically if they call up someone for a start, they wait until the day of the start.

Good points but Gonzalez would be a nice veteran bullpen piece for the postseason possibly. There's a chance he could get hot and be a reasonable arm. As a starter, no way you'll get more than 4 innings or 5 out of him.

Have to disagree regarding the horrid staff, Lopez the only starter not pitching well, most of the relief pitchers are also having very good years, despite all the fretting in the game threads.

This is incorrect.

Can someone explain how pretty much forfeiting tomorrows game makes any sense? Because if there’s logic behind this I don’t understand it.

Because they want to line up Keuchel for the postseason. People don’t want to hear this, but teams aren’t going to really care what their seeding is
