Starting Rotation

It is January 2nd 2002, and of course nothing has happened yet. Sure, the White Sox traded Mark Johnson, Keith Foulke, and Joe Valentine for Billy Koch, Neal Cotts and Daylon Holt. But really now, is that going to help us with the starting rotation? Well of course they all say, oh yes you need to build to the back of the rotation. No. That is not always the case. Basically the rotation is this right now. Mark Buerhle. Jon Garland. Dan Wright. Jon Rauch. Rocky Biddle. Combined record isn't impressive. 50-41, 4.79 era. :puke :eek That is why the White Sox need to bring in Pedro Astacio and Ismael Valdes. Valdes could fill in as a #5, while Astacio is a #2. The rotation is as follows: Mark Buehrle, Pedro Astacio, Jon Garland, Dan Wright, Ismael Valdes.

The problem is, Astachio is do to make a ton of money. He also had a terrible 2nd half of the season after looking like a cy young award winner in the first half.

I am not against Valdes, because it would keep Biddle in the pen, and give us a good backup plan in case one of our pitchers is injured or struggles.

Of course, Biddle would probably start the season as the 5 with Rauch down in AAA if we were to sign Valdes. Also, Daal is still out their and would be a very good pickup as well.

Astacio will make $7 million next year....Lee will make $4.2 million.

This won't happen, but I'm throwing it out there as a possibility, because we'd only take on $2.8 million of his contract, and if KW could sweet talk Phillips, maybe he could get the Mets to take about half of it....whether in cash or against their payroll.

Ick! I'm all for signing Valdes, but he most likely could be signed for 2 years at $3 million per year. Astacio is not as good as Valdes (or, at best, is equal to Valdes), makes WAY more money and would require us to give up someone in trade to get him. Unless he could be had for dirt cheap (e.g., Matt Ginter or Josh Paul) and unless the Mets would throw in at least half of his salary, I wouldn't touch Astascio.

Well, I'll give you a hint about why we don't deal with Bora$(aside from that one).

Greg Maddux also has Bora$ as his agent....and Maddux will have 18 million reasons why he is happy that Bora$ is his agent.

Rogers could command around $5 or $6 million next year. At his age, that is outlandish.

Boras is a complete douchebag. I believe JR offered A-Rod something like 13 million a year, and Boras just laughed and walked away.

Winning a Championship? Winning the Salary Sweepstakes?

Hell, even ESPN predicted he would come here. Oh, the possibilities.

Boras goes for the pay day, because the bigger pay day his guy gets, the bigger one he gets.

Him and Steinbrenner are terrible. Steinbrenner is willing to give impact player money to mediocre players, while Boras is asking for impact player money for mediocre players.
