Well I don't want to get too off topic, but of course Donovan is going to say that. He won't say the players stink, and you're right, maybe they are better than what they've shown, but let's not act like their talent is in the same hemisphere as the Sox talent.

Regardless we both agree Renteria needs to go :)

Talent wise I agree, not even close, but I don’t want Ricky sabotaging a young promising players start to his career due to management loyalty.

It’s the same Owner who kept Jim Boylen around for so long. Unfortunately Ricky won’t go anywhere for the next 2-3 years at a minimum.

Don't see Reinsdorf running the show approaching 90, between COVID and the CBA, next year may likely be his last season.

A new ownership will sweep out the rot that has built here since the Ronald Wilson Reagan Administration (Cooper hired in 1988).

White Sox Gar / Pax, RR, Weekend at Cooper's and the whole dumpster fire. Like Michael has done once Jerry stepped aside with the Bulls.

After reflecting over dinner, I now know what really is going on here. It’s a move of genius.

Ricky is a baseball legend for this. He knew Rodon would blow the game. He wanted to take all the pressure off the team going into the playoffs and set himself up to be a sacrificial lamb.

The team is going to turn around now only because of this selfless amazing move.

This is exactly how it happened and is the exact motivation.

Why do you keep mentioning GarPax? They’re gone, thankfully.

Boylen was also the guy who has stunted the younger players growth. Billy Donovan even said they have too much talent to be where they have been the last 2 seasons. Same thing over on our side of the city. Keeping Ricky much longer just may affect our growth as a potential championship team. All the pieces are there even with the holes in RF and DH. However there is one glaring issue and that is the manager. If Ricky wins manager of the year, he will easily get a free pass the next couple seasons. Jerry is loyal to a fault, we all know this.

Actually Boylen was probably used to offset the salary impact. They had to pay Hoiberg $5 Mil in 2019 and 2020 so they hired Boylen and he got $800,000 each year. Now they can pay Donovan big bucks

It’s clear that Renteria thinks through things and gets very stuck in his ways. Why would you plan on Rodon and Bummer pitching one inning each tonight? Who cares? You need to be flexible and adapt to the situation at hand.

Same thing with Edwin and Mazara. Mazara wouldn’t see the light of day if he was right handed, but since he loves match ups (don’t care if he’s batting .200, he’s a lefty!) and defined roles (Edwin is a DH, who cares what his results are?) he actively harms the team.

Reminds me of when he had the bright idea Drew Anderson of AAAA fame was going to go 3+; just fucking dumb. Ricky couldn't read the room if it was on fire.

How many accounts is this for you Longo?  At least three by my count with good ole One Dog.

Maybe we wanted to see if Rodon was gonna be “the guy, the secret weapon” etc for the playoffs.

if he dominated there that would have been huge.  Now we know not to high-leverage him in the playoffs.

no big deal to me.  Now we know

This - more valuable to put him in the leverage situation. And if rodon is ready tomorrow - I’m doing it again. Get his feet wet now. I’d like to use Rodon two more times if possible before playoffs start but I’ll admit we probably only see him once more.

If you want to be pissed - be pissed at how much such have used their top pen guys last handful of days despite having a playoff spot locked up!

This is objectively wrong. If he wanted to use Rodon so badly, bring him into the 8th into a fresh inning. Why are they now counting on Carlos Rodon, a guy that has never pitched in the bullpen and has had countless injuries to be this dominate LH specialist in the playoffs? That's insane.

Imagine coming back from being hurt again and trying to be at peace being a bullpen arm. And then imagine your first game being thrown into that situation in your first ever penant race. Why not give the guy a fresh inning to get his feet wet?

I watched the postgame show with Thomas and Ozzie. Thomas was really upset at the loss. Ozzie restrained himself. If RR gets the boot I would not be surprised if Ozzie came back as manager. It doesn't look like anybody else is going to hire Ozzie as a manager. This would be the perfect opportunity for him and probably his last job  as manager.

Love to see ozzy back if there isn't anybody else worth getting.

Thought about it a little more. This tweet really stands out, for a few reasons.

1. It's the main point I've been critical on Rick for all season. He doesn't have a desire to win the ballgame in front of him. Everything is about down the line. What's this mean for the future. There is a time and place for that.....but in the middle of your worst stretch with 3 games left in the season with the division on the line is NOT THE TIME. The quote itself is really pretty amazing. "Eh, we're up 4-1, bases are loaded, this team needs a win more than anything right now, we can really help control our own fate with a win......let me bring in Carlos Rodon, see if he can do something I've never asked him to do after being out of action for the last 45 days. WHAT COULD GO WRONG?"

2. Which leads into the obvious next point. Rick has simply never been in this situation. He's never been asked to manage a winning team. His stretch with the Cubs came with ZERO expectations, and the same goes for the White Sox up until 2020. When the Cubs seemed ready to take the next step in their rebuild.....Theo moved on from Rick. He has shown us time and time again he doesn't have a feel for how to strategically manage the game in front of him.

Unless the Sox make the World Series or some incredible post season run next week......I simply don't know how you can bring him back with confidence, thinking "This is the guy that is going to bring us a World Series. We got him, this is our man."

What’s weird is that even if he’s trying to play eleven dimension chess, he still doesn’t learn. Cordero has an ERA of 6, Robert has been 0 for a million, and Mazara and Encarnacion have negative WAR and nothing really changes. Unless Rodon now doesn’t pitch in crucial situations and Mazara/Encarnacion are benched in the playoffs, the simplest explanation for this is that Ricky is really dumb and bad at his job.

You could tell  that the Sox saw Rodon as some amazing “acquisition” that was returning down the stretch.  You have two dominant lefties in the pen now, and he’s not one.

I actually think Rodon could be a good reliever down the line. He got up to 97 MPH tonight. With his slider, that might work for an inning at a time. The problem is throwing him into the fire the way they did. Anyone that knows anything about baseball knew that was going to end terribly.

I think y'all are missing maybe the most important part:

"Renteria had a short outing in mind for Rodon, being this is the sort of situation he will face in the playoffs."

Why? Why would this be a situation he would face in the playoffs? You have a ton of bullpen arms, unless shit goes sideways you are never going to be in a situation where there are men on base and Rodon is your only option.

It is completely in your control to make sure he only comes in for clean innings. In fact, you could guarantee it by making him an opener! Why in the world would you take a SP who is notoriously slow to discover his fastball control and decide he is suddenly there for high-leverage and stopper situations when he is just now being converted to a RP???

It’s obvious he was trying to lose the game so he could become take the focus off on the field performances of the players. Ozzie used to do it all the time.

He's a nice guy. Love the Spanish speaking ability. That's important for this team. But after these last four games you literally are justified to fire him tomorrow. I've never seen that before in baseball. Boylen is an example in the NBA and reinsdorf allowed his ass to be fired, so who knows at this point. When Benetti turns on you...you are some kind of suck.
