So much for the "new tone"

You know he's going to have rallies nonstop once he is out of office. This won't go away with him leaving office. This stain will plague the republicans for a while.

You can just come out and say recent Medal of Freedom recipient and notable suer-of-cows, Devin Nunes.

The House is adjourned until the 19th. Maybe they will step up sooner. Pence will not carry the ball.

And he is only going to get crazier. He is a malignant narcissist, they only get worse, and he won't have his office keep him from holding back anymore. It is really going to be nuts, and his grifter family isn't going to stop it. It is their gravy ticket.

Tried to tell you it wasn't gonna last

PMs with this kind of discussion could last, but some posters won’t last.

I will never understand how Trump has developed this cult like following.  A rich, entitled, privileged, arrogant, & stupid New Yorker who cares about no one but himself and his ego is somehow basically a god to people who couldn’t be any different.  How this con artist could easily trick so many people into thinking he was this outsider who would “drain the swamp” when in reality he had the self-interest traits you see in many politicians is beyond remarkable.  Not sure how you solve that either, because he’s earned the love & admiration of a sizable part of this country despite endless evidence that he is a self/centered douche.

I can’t understand people who voted Republican, are highly intelligent and voted for him a second time. I also want to know if the white working class had always been for republican presidents in our history. Were they Reagan Democrats? Did they support Bush? Or did they vote for Democrats and flip to Trump?

I agree. That he was able to portray himself as the advocate of the working class and fighter against financial elite is pretty outrageous when you consider his life story.

The democrats have certainly missed to adress the working class in the last 30 years (basically any dem president or candidate since carter was a neolib) but trump certainly isn't the solution for the working class at all.

I can understand if a white supremacist has voted for trump but some others I can't really understand

- christian people: trump actually does not know a single bible verse and probably wasn't in church for 20 years before his presidency. He was was divorced several times, had affairs with porn stars and is constantly swearing.

On the other hand biden goes to church every week and actually knows the bible

-white working class: sure he promised bringing jobs in back from china but that won't happen and overall he certainly was more corporate friendly than worker friendly.

Trump even gained with black and latin voters despite being openly racist.

I don't get the fascination, maybe people think his incompetence is kind of a cool novelty?:)

I realize Dems have done bad stuff too, Obama deported tons of people and didn't close quantanomo either but really under trump it got 10 times worse.

I wonder what policies Democrats could have done to gain these people throughout the years, though.

Some of the stuff that biden has promised like free college could help.

I think it was great that bernie hung in so long. Back then people said quit the race already and support biden against trump but by staying in the race and being annoying he forced biden to promise stuff like debt cancelation, free college and so on and now is probably the best chance to get that stuff done.

I would also like m4all but even going back to and slightly improving Obamacare already would be a good start.

I think the adjournment is just an acknowledgment of the mess and need to regroup. Whatever legislative plans they might have had were broken on Tuesday, we aren’t passing the DREAM act right now. They can be called back in if something is ready to happen.

They liked him, they liked his policies, they liked that he hurt the people they don't like.

They are.

But almost what corporation uses MLM. You buy a new car. The salesman earns a commission. The sales manager earns a commission. The general manager gets his cut. The Ford factory rep gets paid,  the regional managers get paid, it goes all the way back to the President of Ford. All those multiple levels get paid.

Buy something at Walmart and all those levels get paid.

Pyramid schemes are different because they have no product or service and are illegal.

Where MLM receives a bad name,  and I believe justifiably so,  is they "hire" anyone.  There are people that have no business in sales and they fail. That's not the fault of MLM, that's poor hiring. They would have failed at opening any new business.

MLM is just a pyramid scheme that's cleaned up so it's somewhat kosher. It's still a fucking scam and always has been. It's fraud.  C'mon Tex, you know better.

It wouldn't shock me if he immediately filed to run for President again, that way he can keep "raising money".

It’s going to be “interesting” to see what happens with him, because I don’t think he wants to actually “be” President again, to Ron’s point, he wants to still do rally’s, and he wants to still grift and steal peoples money.

But I’m also curious to see if his “base” moves on to someone else in a few years...

From what I understand they can impeach him even after his term is over and then pass a resolution forbidding him from running for federal office ever again which should be tempting for republican senators eyeing a 2024 presidential run.

That's why impeaching is imperative. Bar him from any federal office forever.

Meanwhile Lindsay Graham is insisting that the bad precedent to set would be holding Trump accountable for this:

The policies aren't the Democrats' problem--it's the messaging. Policies are not a zero sum game--helping the poor, disadvantaged, and minorities in most cases is also beneficial for white working class people but the Democrats have failed to make that case and Republicans have convinced them that giving anything to others equals taking away from them.

If Trump doesn't run again in 2024, at this point who is the favorite to win the GOP primary? Pence and Cotton are charisma black holes, Hawley is too much of a dweeb, and the Trump kids are losers who are unlikely to be able to inspire the same kind of cultish loyalty their father did, especially if the GOP tries to distance themselves from Trump over the next four years. I don't see them going back to boring old establishment candidates either though. The MyPillowGuy maybe?

One point regarding impeachment-the process can continue after the accused leaves office, as a conviction by the Senate can be accompanied by a disqualification from holding future office which would clearly be worthwhile.

Nikki Haley

1) Never openly critical of Trump so acceptable to his base

2) Got out early enough to not be tagged with all of Trump's failings

3) A female and a minority so much harder to get away with smearing her without it backfiring

There's also the problem of the entire conservative media structure amplifying bad faith objections to Democratic policies.  Two easy examples:

1) Death panels and the Affordable Care Act; and

2) The Green New Deal means the Democrats want to ban hamburgers.

That is EXACTLY why he will file to run for President again.  As long as he has the cover of a "campaign" to work under, he can continue to mine his supporters for cash to embezzle back to himself. and his businesses.
