The explicitly anti democratic party needs to be destroyed or it will destroy us.

Who are you including in your definition of the party? The 70,000,000 people who voted for Trump?

Holy s***. This blew my mind. Following a lot of news and I didn’t hear this about her until a screenshot of a tweet. Jesus that’s who we are.

A guy was choked to death but look at his record. The lady was insane but should not have died for that in my view.

70,000,000 Americans voted for him and in various amounts agree with the protestors,  (but probably not the actions).

I'll take a guess and say 60,000,000 will never ever vote for a Democrat for president. I'm hoping some moderate within the party can gain traction and build a base that pushes Cruz and his cult to fringes where they belong.  The GOP is facing a serious crisis.

Or, perhaps a socially liberal,  fiscally conservative, party can gain ground. I'd look seriously at that.

What politicians are closest to that?

Rick Perry was close. With partisan politics the norm, I can't think of anyone. The political parties force everyone to the party platform.

Joe Biden. Which is why it's interesting that he didn't win by even more of a landslide, although part of that is probably due to Trump framing him as a radical socialist

If Biden was 10 years younger, he probably wins an Obama-style victory.

Something I'm genuinely worried about--how much ability does Trump have to prevent the military, FBI, and other law enforcement from preventing widespread rioting on the 20th? Would it be wise to schedule Biden and Harris to get sworn in in different cities?

We...don't know. Especially when some of the Capitol police aided and abetted the attack on that facility, and there were other people from law enforcement nationwide in the mob...I would call that a legitimate concern.

Larry Hogan, Charlie Baker?

Yeah, you could argue Biden, but I don’t know how conservative he is fiscally.

If Biden ran 4 years ago, none of this would have happened.

Amen. Although I think Trump still might have won because people were intrigued by him, although many hated Hillary.

I remember a commentator claiming that firsts don't happen back to back. We wouldn't go from first black president to first female. I thought the comment was wrong at the time,  but maybe it wasn't that far off. An old white guy after Obama may have had a better chance.

Sure, but how often do the networks televise WH press conferences or speeches?  The Covid-19 daily press briefings probably added up to more airtime than the last 4-5 presidents combined.  The difference is society is so mobile and 24 hour news oriented that there's not an obvious secondary option to reach a huge mass of individuals on a daily basis, instantly.

But even if Twitter was that...the masses clearly aren’t using it, or don’t want to.

But what percentage of eligible American voters or those who actually voted for Trump in 2016/20 are represented in that 22%?

Normally, we’re lucky to get 50-55% of eligible voters to cast ballots.

This year, 154 million (votes) still represents less than half the US population.  At any rate, there’s undoubtedly a high correlation between followers and voters in his case.

If anything, the most important point is free/instantaneous communication with millions for free.  Strip away Twitter and FB, he wouldn’t have had a prayer to win in 2016.   Let’s not forget those years before he officially announced in 2015 that he was building up his base, going back to the Birther controversy.

Problem: With the final days of the Fourth Reich unfolding, who will enable the military when the Duck Dynasty gang tries to forcibly prevent the inauguration? This suggests to me that the event will be held in private at an undisclosed location. There is too much at stake.

The political apparatus that continues to threaten violence

if there are not swift and harsh consequences for the violently anti democratic political party, this will only get worse.
