The Cubs dumped their best pitcher, are in absolute teardown mode, and have zero hope for anything but steeper decline on the horizon.  The Sox are one of the hottest teams in the league, just added a top 5 in CY voting starter, and have two months to add more.  The general mood and level of despondency on the teams’ respective message boards is roughly the same.  “What a league.”

There are some scenarios, albeit optimistic, where a very good Eloy Jimenez could be our 5th best hitter and Lynn could be our 3rd best starter. I like our team. Shore up the pen and go to work.

He’s a free agent after the 2021 season.

Oh, wow... that’s really bad then. I thought he was controlled until after 2022 and would be a flip piece.

Awful trade for the Cubs right now... they must be banking on one of the younger lottery tickets becoming the next He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Mills threw a no hitter and is good, Alzolay is ok. The Sox had only one more performing starter entering last year’s playoffs. Keuchel’s performance made it a single good starter. Yes, it was Ricky’s fault.

fWAR 2021 Projections:

Cubs: Hendricks 2.6; Mills 1.2; Alzolay 1.3; ? and ? (Perhaps low cost free agents).

Sox: Giolito 2.9 ; Lynn 2.7 ; Keuchel 1.7; Kopech 1.3; Cease 1.1.

I don’t see a “multi championship” rotation at this point.

They still have Nick Cage who will still pwn the Sox, with the possibility they will acquire more. Sox may have one more bullet in the chamber, expecting another blue light special Eaton dud vs. a stud.

Lol if you think Giolito has a 2.9 win projection

Mark Cuban

Good choice, but he is done with MLB after his three previous rejections and recent comments regarding the pathetic “leadership” exhibited by Manfred and current ownership.

Theo Epstein can bring a small stake and grow it via compensation, like Jerry did, and attract enough financial interest from billionaires across the globe to adequately fund a purchase. If Theo’s future is baseball, I believe that is his next logical step. He loves living in Chicago and hopefully an opportunity will arise while he is still available.

The White Sox should reclaim the historical (pre Reinsdorf) 50/50 Chicago fan interest split over time with new ownership. Hell, the Sox plan had promise until the octogenarian big timed his staff, squashing momentum and goodwill of fans sparked last season.

Yes, I’m sure the Twins feel great that a team that was already even with them last year (to be charitable to the Twins) added a top starter to its rotation while the Twins themselves have done nothing.  🙄

Lance Lynn is not a top starter. He had a career year in 2019. Stop. Lynn is a 3-3.5 win pitcher.

Is it not possible the Cubs had to have a guy like Davies in return? ReyLo wasn't gonna cut it.

He's fine at the back end.

They quickly learned this post-season, though, that's he's not the kind of pitcher you can necessarily rely on to shut the other team down in the playoffs, and that's all that matters to SD right now (and getting past the Dodgers.)

Just imagine in 2022, they'll have Gore/Lamet/Clevinger/Darvish/Paddock as their starting rotation...but they still have Morejon, Ryan Weathers, Lucchesi (back end/spot or swing starter/trade piece like Davies) and Michel Baez to back them up or make yet another trade.

The top options will likely be Luis Patiño and Adrian Morejon. Patiño, who turned 21 this week, had a 5.19 ERA and 1.85 WHIP this season. Although these aren’t inspiring numbers, he was just 20 years old all season long and has a lot of work to do now that he has made his MLB debut. His 21 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings show promise in his stuff, though.

Morejon, 21, recorded a 4.66 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings. Both of these young pitchers had a huge opportunity on this Padres team this season to showcase their abilities.

Another pitcher who is worth looking at is Joey Lucchesi. Lucchesi was one of San Diego’s workhorse pitchers in 2018 and 2019 but only made three appearances this past season. With Lucchesi and Morejon currently being the only two LHP with a solid chance to break the rotation, one of them will likely make it. Manager Jayce Tingler would likely go with the younger Morejon for 2021, as shown by his usage in 2020.

Two other left-handed pitchers that turn heads are Ryan Weathers and MacKenzie Gore. Weathers, 20, made his MLB debut in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. In 1 1/3 shutout innings, he walked two batters and struck out Cody Bellinger. Weathers is the Padres’ No. 6 prospect and will be intriguing to watch if placed on the roster in 2021.

MacKenzie Gore. The Padres’ No. 1 prospect, the top pitching prospect in all of baseball, and the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball. Gore, 21, is expected to be a future top-of-the-rotation starting pitcher. Due to COVID-19, Gore, along with all minor league players, did not have a season.

The DeVos Family would be quite elated with choice #6.

#8 is DON'T EAT?  It probably should be don't eat OUT everyday, lol.

No, she meant #8 as it was written. This is a mockery of a "helpful tips" guideline that was issued by a large bank (IIRC)  and went viral just as shit was hitting the fan earlier in the year, in light of the Ricketts' crying poor while daily meals aren't a sure thing for some people who had gotten used to that darn luxury.
