Based on how well this day is going, yup.

Lol.

I find it odd that Nightengale would say something that could create a firestorm. Isnt he the teams handpicked media mouthpiece and isn't the relationship essentially a transactional one where he's a cheerleader and/or puff piece writer and/or team fed disinfo specialist in exchange for getting good access/scoops.

If so, what is going on here? I dont get it.

Jerry, Tony, and Bob say things that sound good to them without realizing how it comes off to anyone else. We saw that with Bob’s “DUI is awesome” or whatever it was last fall.

Hahahahaha. Yeah right.  Is this guy serious with this crap.

It may actually be true. Apparently after the 1995 season,  Tony thought he was coming back, but Ron Schueler balked and stuck with Bevington. He probably  saw his power would dry up with Tony around. The next seaon they went after Leyland, but he didn't like how they treated his buddy Gene Lamont, so he went to the Marlins.

Ok so everyone hates larussa I get it, he has a couple of DUI’s which apparently nobody on this board has ever got or won’t admit. We are all angels here, let me ask this in your hatred are you going to go as far as to not want him to succeed? I want to win , he is the manager whether you like him or not, but damn JR is old and will die soon then we will all get his cheap kid running the show , we’re not getting Mark Cuban or jeff bezos. Let’s just focus on the team and win.

As long as you promise that if something goes wrong this year you will join in the group calling for his head and refusing to spend money on the team until he’s gone.

No I am not going that far. I remain disappointed that he was hired in the way he was because I thought they were headed in a new direction after years of the same way the organization was run. I’ll be curious as to how the guy I wanted managing the team, Hinch does in Detroit. I’ll also be curious to see what the plan is when TLR retires and if someone on the coaching staff takes over or if they hire from within the system. If TLR still has it and can manage, great and let’s get down to business and go win.

The orchestrated campaign started last July, when Reinsdorf already determined Crony La Russa would manage next season because no responsible organization would give him a job after another DUI arrest, or the fact that he is over a decade removed from the job.

This despite the fact Hahn gave Renteria an extension and would lead the White Sox to their best record in decades. Reinsdorf's paid for media hacks Stone and Guillen trashed Renteria the entire season.

Cell Jerry Cell

He was still working with the Angels when the White Sox hired him.

I am in the group that feels like we are cheering loudly for his hiring but I have only come to accept it.  I think the staff and team that has been built is built for success.  Their hirings around him have been great.

Hahn and the staff obviously feel that reliance on development will be the key to this team.  You can call it cheap but are the options all that bad?  It is not like Jimmy Lambert is being rolled out there as the #4.  There are 3 proven starters and 4 potential pretty decent #4 and #5 options.  There is a RHH hitter that should fit the DH role perfectly.

I believe there is a good amount of this board that now look at JR as Jerry Jones.  I think JR has a say and I think if he pushed for Tony previously and did not get his way maybe Hahn and Williams (who was part of the process in the 90s) relented because of it.  Hiring LaRussa in 1996 could have changed this organization for the better....maybe doing it now will work.

I say all of this because I am not a fan of Hinch and really don't think there were any other candidates out there that didn't have similar risk.

Having multiple DUIs is very different than having one, and being in a high profile job or driving as part of your job makes having the DUIs different as well. This is a sign that the ownership really doesn't care about the fans, and they don't really deserve having the fans care about them.

I will watch on TV and want the players to succeed, but I won't be buying tickets or merchandise so long as TLR is employed by the team.

There it is. If you hate this hire, you are cheering for him to fail. But because he is the manager we all have to like it.

Those 500 replies are too easy.

Hahn doesn't have another GM job lined-up.

May not even get another.

Pace either.

Trading FTJR and Drafting Trubisky respectively.

I kinda of feel sorry for Hahn - mind you I said kinda.

Pace not so much.

The funny thing is if FTJR was still with the Sox, Reinsdorf would probably still have him under contract control in the minors...LOL

Can anyone on this site fathom Reinsdorf giving anyone on planet earth 324 million - and a 22 year old at that ?

Better hope the next ownership are high rolling, well-heeled sportsmen.

Once Biden gets this pandemic under control it'll been a world new world in sports - and everything else.

Unless you are Jerry Reinsdorf, I don't know how you can say that. For one thing, Hahn didn't threaten to quit, and I doubt someone with the White Sox would even ask him that question. There probably is a chance Bob did.  The fact that Scheuler didn't want Tony after the 1995 season made JR back off. I would imagine if RH and KW told him they hated the move, there is a decent chance the call is never made.

Complaining about the TLaR hire initially was fair game, but it has gotten old over the past several weeks.  Please move on men because this is starting to get  counterproductive. Let circumstances play out for a while  with the team and  let Sox fans enjoy the start of a new season. Thanks.

Not a fan of the hire then or now. It’s pathetic that he was chosen and now the more facts that come out, the more incompetent and disfunctional this organization looks.

HOWEVER, I will not deny his accomplishments as a manager. He knew what he was doing (granted a decade ago). I think this team is talented enough to win inspite of their manager (as seen with RR). I’m ready for baseball to start and distract me from this shit show over the past year/year and half.

I will always support the team due to all the fond memories they have given me in my childhood and young adult life.

Counterproductive for whom?  What exactly is our digestion of the new sordid details of this embarrassment holding back? If the facts of this hire are affecting the players then that sounds like more of an issue with the coach than with the discussion surrounding it. Every new fact that comes out is fair game and should absolutely be amplified, we deserve to know exactly how all this went down, if we have to deal with this bullshit going forward then I want the Sox to have to sweat every last detail of this fiasco, Why in the hell would you just sweep it under the rug for them? This organization has done nothing to deserve that level of respect. They need to speak to all of it.

I can't imagine  working this hard to carry water for Jerry Reinsdorf.  Pass.

we deserve to know exactly how all this went down,

No "we" (you) don't.

if we have to deal with this bullshit going forward

You don't have to deal with this.

then I want the Sox to have to sweat every last detail of this fiasco

No need to sweat the details of something that isn't  your business.

As I stated, let circumstances play out. Meanwhile, let Sox fans including  yourself enjoy the game.

You know what else has gotten old?  Having people complain about Sox fans that are still mad about this whole fiasco.  Let people follow their favorite team the way they want to.  If it's annoying you that people continue to be frustrated when more details continue to come out then you can just ignore those people.  Same idea.

And attitudes like this are exactly why fans are pissed and not getting over it.  I promise you the worst way for a person to start to deal with something, is for judgey people to tell them to get over what is bothering them and accept it as is.
