Maybe he should focus on putting a winning project on the field - arent they the longest drought without a playoff appearance?

You are correct, and I don't think that it's a coincidence that a team with that kind of drought is also where a guy has a public chat like this.

It's a bummer for the mariners F.O. and young players who figured to be pretty exciting this year, to have this talentless hack frame them in this negative light.

I think DiPoto is now in this similar group with Hahn and Preller, where they initially looked awful in their role of GM where ownership demanded a competitive team despite a large gap to cross with limited resources to get there. Dipoto in desperation mode was trying to paper clip his way into depth and just couldn't scrape by enough, and by 2018 they'd basically maxed out as close as they could get with near top 10 pitching and hitting but underperformed in actual runs created.

And lo and behold when he was allowed to put himself in a to win through more of a scouting and PD focus he has shown again that he actually has a damn good eye for talent and in just a few years with limited assets to trade off he's put together one of the most exciting young outfields in baseball and really nailed his trades.

And in Julio Rodriguez the guy is about to crash into the scene too and now will be asked about his English constantly rather than his play.

And the one huge asset Seattle has had, their relationship and market for Japanese stars, this dude craps all over it because they have to pay 75k a year? GMAB.

It's that he's an asshole. There are assholes on both sides of the political spectrum. For every thing he says, you can find someone else who said the same or similar thing that isn't an asshole.

What has that have to do with the pertinent issue at hand?

I’m not sure I see the connection

The connection is not the White Sox’ equivalent positions (Williams or Hahn) but the manager who shares many similarities with Mathers:

  1. Willing to share their ignorant opinions to anyone who will listen, with pride because they operated their whole careers in a crony protected bubble.
  2. Priding themselves on operating under a “family” type atmosphere.
  3. Offering “sincere” apologies and claiming they learned from their initially exposed “mistakes” when they clearly have not.
  4. Having inept and dysfunctional  ownership bending over backwards to acquire / promote / keep these two.

These are the people running your game folks. The crony old boys network, whether on the South Side or Seattle are the reasons people remain repulsed by the La Russa hire, and the owner who made it happen.

It’s 8:26 AM PST, Mets shitcanned their GM by this time the following day and folks here claimed the Mets dragged their feet in firing their disgraceful GM.

In someways I’m hoping the Mariners dig in Reinsdorf style, at least for a few days, and reap what they have sowed with cancellations of significant season ticket and corporate suites, not to mention the media frenzy before finely doing what they should have done in or before 2018.

The Mariners have sort of a Cubs prior to 2016 thing going on out here where they are "lovable losers" and people don't really care if they win or lose too much as long as they can enjoy a few cold ones on a perfect Seattle summer evening and hear the crack of the bat and the calls of the venders and the smell of hot dogs in the air.

Well, that's in danger now.  What a moron.  If you aren't a winner, you sure as hell better not alienate the fans that do come out and do watch your games -- and this includes a large contingent of Japanese-Americans.

To be fair, I will see in the M's case, a guy just popping off at the mouth is a factor less than either the Mets or the White Sox situations.

Ken Rosenthal’s statement on the Athletic posted on a Mariners message board.

Bob Nightengale and Jerry are likely fuming at Ken’s opinion piece.

Kevin Mather should have been gone by now. The Mariners should have dismissed him after the Seattle Times reported in 2018 that, before he became team president and CEO, he was one of three club executives accused by women of inappropriate workplace conduct, resulting in financial settlements for the complainants.

Think maybe now, after Mather’s tone-deaf and offensive remarks to the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club in a video call Feb. 5, the Mariners’ head-in-the-sand ownership finally will take action? He needs to be fired by the time you read this. His cringeworthy musings, one more misguided than the next, are Exhibits A through Z in why many players and fans hold owners in contempt. If this is how ownership types really think, why should any of them be trusted?

This shouldn’t even require a phone call from commissioner Rob Manfred to Mariners owner and managing partner John Stanton, though here’s guessing it will. Enough of the Mariners acting in denial. Enough of an executive who disparages his own players. Enough of Mather.

It’s now 9:52 AM PST, Mathers remains at least publicly as the team’s CEO.

I had not heard about the misconduct stuff.  Scratch my original thoughts.

Not to mention you’re basically announcing to the world your supposed franchise player’s future star power is being questioned...and the fact that they will eventually have to Lindor him because of all the ill-will created from publicly airing this and blaming the player for consulting with the MLBPA.   Must have been a low-ball offer that for some reason they assumed he would accept.

One of the writers faulted owner malfeasance in handling extension offers to prospects. I do not agree with that. Both sides have rights.

That's just short sighted.  WIth what contracts go for, it is a great plan to spread the costs out and bring some certainty to the team.  But the players have to be on board.

Also this guy didn't seem to be a baseball ops guy, more of a ted phillips owner-stays-happy-because-you-ask-the-annoying-questions-about-costs-of-75k-translators-so-he-doesn't-have-to and if anything they aren't going to put baseball ops guy above dipoto at this point.

Am I missing something here? This guy resigned because he complained about paying for an interpreter for a guy who can speak English? Is there something else to it?

Kyle Seager is their equivalent of Paul Konerko or more recently Abreu.  Calling him out as "overpaid" was a fire-able offense.  You can't fucking alienate your fanbase like that.  Imagine if JR called Jose Abreu overpaid.  Even if he fucking is, you sure as shit don't say it in public.

The most damaging is the blunt statement about service time manipulation with Kelenic and Logan Gilbert...that will have reverberations across the sport in challenges to the current system.

From the local fanbase perspective, criticizing Seager as "overpaid" when he's been injured recently isn't doing him any favors.  It's not like he went after Ichiro, but it's the equivalent of KW going after Adam Dunn during the 2011 season...you don't need to say anything, even if you are thinking it.  It's not like they were going to give Kyle Lewis "extra money" for having a great rookie campaign.  That's the system.   Young players fight to get to arbitration and then free agency for that one big contract.

Yea that too.  This guy is just a moron that showed horrible judgement.  Fire him or have him resign before he says more dumb shit.

I don’t get that either. Wasn’t there just a Krist Bryant case in which they ruled the Cubs acted within terms of CBA agreement? Service time manipulation is built into system and has been for decades. He described standard operating procedure of mlb teams that has been upheld repeatedly over the years
