Cal Quantrill, Ty France, Franmil Reyes are worth 8.8

Preller's reputation is pretty much built on fleecing the Tatis trade and building a good farm, but man, his trade record is looking more and more like he just loves buying shiny toys. If we were PadresTalk, we'd be ripping our hair out over trading Turner, Fried, and Grandal for Myers, Kemp, and Justin Upton.

I hope Hahn reads this.  Put it on his tombstone.

Bellinger homer taken away for passing Turner on the bases.
While they’re changing a bunch of rules, how about this— when the ball goes over the fence, it’s a homer and all of the runners score. The jogging around the bags is just a formality.

Bellinger might be most overpaid player in MLB.  Now hitting .159 with OPS in the .520's.  What happened?

Quote

“The players who donned wristbands in Brooklyn today will make less than $12,000 this year,” Advocates for Minor Leaguers said in a statement to the AP. “The MLB teams they play for are worth well more than $2 billion. There is absolutely no excuse for this. We are proud of these players for standing up for themselves and each other. Their message should be heard loud and clear across the industry: it is time to pay minor leaguers a living wage.”

I'm surprised Texas cut Arihara, as he's already a sunk cost and injuries may have played a big role in his poor performance to start the season.

Wouldn't mind the Sox offer a minor league deal if he clears waivers, could be good insurance  for next season at the ML minimum.

The Padres run the franchise like a fan might — make every “cool-sounding” move possible.  Reminds me of the Mets and Angels over the last decade or so.   Lots of big splashes that make us jealous in the moment but ultimately don’t work out at all.

Yeah we should be picking up any and all people who deal with the Padres farm system if we can.

Probably not in the Reinsdorf buddy system. I didn't realize how far the Padres have fallen.  It sucks to be a fan of theirs.  But we've been down that trail before.

"Cardgate" comes to a painful conclusion tonight for Kevin Keirmaier.

Monday - Kevin takes the Toronto pitch card lying on the ground after a play at the plate, and slides it to the TB Video coordinator.

The top video of the adjacent link shows Kevin slipping the card like a drug deal. https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-blue-jays-kevin-kiermaier-pitching-card

Wednesday - Down 8-1, Ryan Borucki hit Keirmaier on a pitch set up for down and away square in the back. Joe West ejected both him and I believe the Blue Jays' pitching coach, who was freaking out because they had to use another pitcher.  They could have put any position player in as the game was over, but whatever.

Someone on the Sox video staff will hand La Russa a Betamax tape of the two incidents so he can enjoy in his room after the DH tomorrow.

The Cardinals are just insane right now. They were down 4-0 after 1 and 5-1 in this game before coming back and leading 7-5. If they hold on it'll be 12 wins in a row. All this from a team that was basically a .500 team for most of the year.

Yeah. Crazy run.

Their rotation is just not good though. Away from Wainright's resurgence, Flaherty is out, Jon Lester/JA Happ are in it, etc. Their lineup basically sucks after Arenado. They will be the least talent playoff team by a huge margin.

Flaherty will be back for the playoffs. The rest of their rotation is cobbled together crap and so is their bullpen honestly. They've been hitting really well during this run of theirs. If they continue to play this well until the wild card game, I wouldn't want to be whoever plays them. A hot team in October is the best team in October, especially when all they need to do is win one game to knock out the Dodgers or Giants.

Max Scherzer is a solid hitter as far as pitchers go, entering the season with a .193 batting average. He is 0 for 57 after today's game in Denver, his career average down 23 points to .170 at this point.
