What’s a realistic trade for Bryant look like?

Depends on when the trade happens and how much money the Cubs pick up.  KB is a free agent after the season making about $3 million a month.  If the Cubs want fully rid of the cash, it will hurt the return.

Would a package built around J. Kelley be the starting point? Or quantity over quality.

Why?  The Sox need LH power off the bench.

For a power hitter who has a lower OPS than Nick Madrigal,  it would be nice if he could play a useful defensive position.  He's terrible at 1st and the OF. Lamb pinch hitting means you need a 2nd sub for defense.

His ops is at .849

The Cubs aren’t going to be eating any of Bryant’s salary, and they certainly won’t be dealing him to the Sox.

Then their return will suck.  And we should have destroyed the whole Cubs won't deal with the Sox myth years ago.

In a year where the White Sox will be going to the postseason and Cubs possibly Whiteflagging it and pissing off every Marquee subscriber...along with El Mago, Bryant and Rizzo fangroups if they are dealt?

You really believe the circumstances of the two clubs were anywhere close to 2016-17?

Remember, the Cubs had already won the WS, so they were essentially playing with house money.

They just did exactly that last winter.

I don't think this name has been thrown out there but David Peralta would be a good fit.

I know the name doesn't really get fans excited but he is kind of the player they need. Somebody who can string together quality at-bats from the left side and is adequate playing in left field.

He usually ends up between .340-.350 on base with a 290 average. He doesn't hit for much power.

The cost would probably be a low-level minor leaguer and picking up his salary which is 7.5 this year and next year.

Again, He is not like this incredible player but unless the White Sox want to give up somebody on the major league roster adding anybody of significance is going to be difficult.

Jared Kelly probably our best prospect not on the roster is probably a top 125 prospect which is not that great.

Also, I don't think it would hurt to see Gavin Sheets or Blake Rutherford regular at-bats for a cup of coffee.

Peralta's name has actually been mentioned quite a few times, more in the "second tier" after S.Marte/Haniger/Bryant (pipe dream)/Gallo, etc.

Blackmon would be another obvious one.  Gregory Polanco.  Delino DeShields.

The Indians have the same problem between Luplow/Reyes being hurt and getting almost no production from 1B this year.   Need at least one more big bat, likely will go with Bobby Bradley (internal option) instead.

That should never happen. Dont trade a premium prospect for a rental. Ever. FTJ has taught these people  nothing if they do that, which ought to scare the fuck out of us.

At the time FTJ was seen as little more than a long shot big leaguer and a future utility player at best.  I think k the lesson might be get better internal scouting, which to be fair it appears the Sox have improved that area.

Hahn never did the due diligence necessary to make that determination.

On the other side of the trade, I recall that the SD Manager had words with James Shields and demanded that he be traded.

No way  should Hahn have thrown in ANY prospect in a deal where he was already doing SD a huge favor in taking Shields off their hands.

That was one of the worst trades in MLB history and there was absolutely no excuse for Hahn;s negligence.

Especially considering we were already giving them Erik Johnson AND paying at least 55-60% of Shields' salary.

Sounds more like you're describing Alexei Ramirez at the time that he was acquired as a SS/CF/2B/3B jack of all trades.

Delino DeShields is absoluely terrible, I don’t know why you mention him so much. He would not be an upgrade over anybody
