Who are the White Sox Rivals?

I would say the Twins simply for the fact that the Senators/Twins are the only team they have been in the same division/league with continuously since 1901. I know the Senators spent a lot of years being terrible, but the longest history is there.

The question wasn’t “what team has the White Sox played the most?” or “what teams are in the White Sox division?” It was which team is our (yes our) biggest rival, a word that has has a more expansive definition than “most frequent opponent.”
 

This debate always goes the same way.  It’s a definitional problem.  One group posits that the Cubs are a rival because they play a few miles away, compete for the same fans and same market, and have produced a decades-old feud memorialized in songs, folklore, and play games that fire the fans up more than any other team by far. Another group says “but they’re not in our division!  Rivals are in the same division. So they’re not our rivals.  Different division.”  Never understood camp two, but sure, if you narrow your personal definition of “rivalry” to “teams we play the most games against head-to-head” then look at a list of the teams in our division at any given time and there’s your answer.

A rival is who we are playing for the division title. 

1906 was the last time the Sox and Cubs played games that truly mattered. Perhaps the Cubsessed care about the handful of these garbage inter league games, but Sox fans who care about more than thumping their chest and getting into stupid arguments and drunken fights with other idiots have their eye on winning the division, not insert corporate crosstown cup.

Meet again in the World Series, game on. Until then, hyped nonsense.

Oh, well that settles it then.  😂  You’ve made clear that you’ve redefined “rival” to mean team you’re competing with for your divisional title. Went over this above, doesn’t actually capture the common English meaning of the word, but we get it.

Like I said, I don't care what the vocal cubsessed fans think. Last year several posted they weren't rooting for the Cubs against Cleveland in September. Sad, but expected by the cubssessed, many who hate the Cubs more than they like the Sox.

I care about beating the teams the Sox face the most, competing for the postseason. It didn't matter if the Sox beat the Cubs or not, they lost the Division each and every year since the aughts, to their Division Rivals, the most important games the White Sox play each regular season.

Take a poll of the players who they rather win the season series against, Cleveland, Minnesota or the Cubs. Cubs will finish third in that poll, and the players would be right. The Division Rivals are the focus of the season.

There aren't many cities that have two teams, so our opinion about what a "rival" is probably feels a lot different than someone in another city.  It's not the Cubs,  it is kind of the Cubs.  We aren't fighting for standings, we are fighting for the attention span of the casual fan

As we know the cubs are the more popular team esp in my neck of the woods (literally) but I have to say that MOST IE 51% maybe more cub fans are pretty nice people, as a lot of my good friends are. In 05, I had 3 other people (cub fans) watching the Sox at my house polish off Houston and to be honest they were as happy as I was a Chicago team finally could hoist a WS trophy. But yes no doubt you have to consider them a rival despite the league differences..

It depends completely on the ERA. Before my time, in the 50's and 60's, it was the Yankees. Starting in the 70's,  when I first started following them, it was the Royals and the A's mostly until it became the Indians in the 90's and then the Twins in the early 2000's. 

So the real answer is we really don't have one historically. We don't have a Red Sox/Yankees, Dodgers/Giants, Cubs/Cardinals situation.
