Yeah, I do think that was largely because of all the press they got in the offseason. Like you said, Sox fans don't turn out unless the winning is starting, and they certainly weren't winning anything that year, but they got a big boost of coverage that offseason that translated to a trickle of new fans.

Balta nails it yet again.

Just remember that Balta and I agree on most things Sox related.

Maybe Balta just says his opinion in a more indirect, more acceptable way.

I guess I don't believe Sox fans are this dumb and gullible and their attendance history backs me up.

Alright guys, random hypothetical, but which of these scenarios would you prefer?  Assume in all three scenarios that Kimbrel is moved and cheaper bullpen reinforcements are acquired.

Option A:

  • Marcus Semien: 6/$138M | $23M AAV
  • Chris Taylor: 4/$64M | $16M AAV
  • 5th starter = Dallas Keuchel

Option B:

  • Michael Conforto: 4/$76M | $19M AAV
  • Eduardo Escobar: 2/$20M | $10M AAV
  • Chris Bassitt ($9M) for Jake Burger, Jose Rodriguez, & Jason Bilous

Option C::

  • Max Scherzer: 3/$120M | $40M AAV
  • Tony Kemp ($2M AAV) for Micker Adolfo
  • RF = mix of Vaughn & Engel

Option B because Semien is getting around $200M, and Jerry wouldn't spend that much in dollars or years on Scherzer

I also think you're light on the Conforto deal.

Not only is option B the best one, it's also the only option that has a chance of actually happening.

How is Semien getting $200M?

Option B but barely because of Bassit. My A scenario would be Lopez replacing DK as 5th starter with an upgrade at the trade deadline if needed. Anything less than Bassit as a SP and I'm going option A with Lopez.

Conforto went quickly from dumpster diving acquisition to more than 19 million a year

B, though I'd prefer if they can avoid trading Jose Rodriguez.

I feel bad for people who couldn’t view soxtalk all day and see this thread had so many posts in it today, only to see the crap that’s been posted

Is this you volunteering to write a daily summary post on what’s happened in this thread?

Thanks buddy!

So here’s how Steamer would directionally project our fWAR from the 2B, RF, & SP5 spots for each of these options:

  • Option A = 7.5 wins
  • Option B = 6.9 wins
  • Option C = 8.2 wins

I would have gone option B myself, but surprisingly it’s lowest for projected wins and requires the most prospect capital to execute.

Option C, but If we could get Kemp for just Adolfo, we should just do that now and hell just make the trade bigger and get Bassit too.

I would be extremely happy with any of the three, but Option B would make me the happiest.

Does anyone know the last time we had an all RH starting staff?  Anyone know of recent success stories in MLB?  I have no concerns with any of those pitchers doing well individually, but wondering if being all RH is known to have a negative effect on the staff.
