The only postseason game Sox have won last two years was in large part due to Abreu’s homer.  He’s far from an issue on this team. Shit, he’s probably the best leader in the whole organization.

Disagree.  It's TA and in largest part due to the fact that he plays a premium position.  If it's not TA then it's Robert.  It's certainly not Abreu who is potentially replaceable on his own team.

Have you watched much this year? Crochet has been legitimately awful with inherited runners. He’s a SP. He needs clean innings. If you want a lefty there, use Bummer. But Kopech was the obvious choice. And then when he actually does use Bummer, it was also a bad time and definitely should have been Kimbrel/Kopech since he wasn’t used earlier. Then bring in Kimbrel when game is already over. Just terrible bullpen management.

We needed a dominating performance to keep our momentum after going up 4-2.  A dominating pitcher like Kopech can blow away lefties and righties.  Lucas should have been pulled out and replaced by Kopech.  In the playoffs you need to play to win one game at a time do not save our best weapons.

You couldn’t be more wrong about his leadership

Please quit.  Why bring in Kopech in that stage of game.  Tony saw early in season that lucas is soft as hell and went with his tough lefty out of the bullpen.  How can tony be blamed for any of this?  Both games more often than not sox turn 3-0 counts into outs and astros turning 0-2 in walks.  lucas cost this team huge today.  you absolutely CANNOT give free bases like that after the team gave him the lead.  I've got no problems with Tony here at all.

Hang on Slewpy. You bring Kopech into the game at that point because Lucas had been walking guys and getting hit hard and Kopech was the only one in the pen capable of pitching multiple innings  since the Sox had to cover 5 innings if Kopech was brought in to start the 5th inning.

There was no reason to go to Crochet because he pitched yesterday and he has not shown this season to be capable of going in back to back games.

This 2nd game had to be treated like a must win game. The team that goes up 2-0 in a 5 game series wins 88% of the time.

Lucas sucked but the Sox were ahead 4-2. If Kopech starts the 5th and pitched 2 shutout inning maybe things are different.

Oh come on you're nitpicking an at bat when the game was basically out of reach? Did you forget that Jose isn't even close to 100% when he had the flu as recently as 2 days ago? Jose has showed up so far this series. He's not the reason why we're down 2-0.

A 3-run homer makes the game 9-7.  Reguardless a quality AB is to be expected.  I cannot reasonably expect quality ABs from the likes of Hernandez or Leury but I can expect them out of Abreu.

96 and 96, on 0-1 and 0-2.  2 fastballs in a row.  I watched this shit last season.  This is what Abreu did when it counted last season vs. the A's and now he's doing it again.  He choked and there's no way around it.  A Vaughn/Sheets platoon at a discount can give you this, and maybe you can take his salary and buy a guy who won't choke in return.

He didn't choke. Didn't he get two hits today and on base twice yesterday?

The team is just not constructed very well for defense.

The white Sox are one of the worst defensive teams in the majors (25th on fangraphs).

Jose, eloy, Vaughn, sheets, Collins are all distinctly negative defenders only moncada, Robert and Tim are above average (leury about average).

The question is what are you doing about it?

Jose, Vaughn, sheets, burger are all talented hitters who should play nowhere but first or DH but there are only two of those spots.

Remember when we were one of the better defensive teams in baseball last year? That was fun while it lasted. We were 9th in UZR last year while the Astros were 28th. Crazy what a difference a season can make.

I need to reiterate that TLR said he would alternate Hendriks and Kimbrel...then basically didn't do that.

Who knows if Kimbrel doesn't blow chunks for the Sox if he closes a few games here or there, but we definitely know you can throw the crazy fucking Australian whenever and he gets shit done.

Were not still on this kimbrel should have closed nonsense are we? Closing is about pressure. He literally came into a huge spot in a playoff game. Is that not pressure?

Not to mention he choked that save opportunity against the Red Sox. He looked decent against Toronto with a 3 run lead but couldn't save a 1 run game.

They have to make some hard decisions. I think the Abreu era is over. A solid direction is needed, and it has to do with defense and the little things like baserunning.  Some sacred cows may have to be sacrificed. The baseball character of this group is fatally flawed

Ok we can have that argument all day long.  You load up on Ecksteins and Grinderstads and I'll take the uber-talented assholes all day long.  Leadership Smeadership.  And WTF kind of leadership is it when you go down the way Abreu went down in Game 2 this year and in the last game in 2020?  That's jabroniship, not leadership.  May as well have been Daniel Palka or Ross Gload in the box.

BTW I don't think the pitching strategy was bad.

Bummer had a sub 1 Era against lefties this year and he did get a ground ball which is what you want. The grounder just found a hole, that is bad luck.

It wasn't bad luck. It was bad defensive positioning. The story of the season, really.

To be fair Robert misplayed a ball in that game.  Oh well, this entire transaction is a debacle and I just hope they can get some type of asset for him.  There is no fucking way he’s on the 2022 White Sox though.

Right on.  We needed Kopech for us to win this game.  It’s getting harder and harder to continue blanket  support  of TLR.
