Roster Crunches: Guys we like unlikely to be protected

I was reading this article

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-teams-with-the-toughest-decisions-ahead-of-40-man-roster-protection-deadline/

Very interesting on the roster crunches. Sox definitely have a lot of room, and I don't know, not that concerned about a lot of them. Sousa, Perez (x2), Fernandez. And do we need Yermin, Rutherford protected? We have a lot of room.

Guys I'd like:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=kwan--000ste

We may lose leury, and thus a good backup OFer. This guy bats LEFTHANDED omg and is a CF that batted .321 / .407 / .527 between AA and AAA last year. 23 years old, and will be one to watch if unprotected.

I think this would require trading for a guy that doesn't need protecting. But this guy plays C, 2b and SS, and hit for .800 ops in AA last year. Granted, he's 24.

Cody Morris

RHP Relief Pitcher fanned 52 in 36 IP on Guardians AAA squad.

We're in the deep cuts now.

Nice find but I can't get behind pay wall.  Perhaps a reasonable summary without blatant theft LOL.  I normally do a post on this but couldn't do it with looming work stoppage.

Major concern with Ford is a nearly 33% k rate at AA.  Would worry part time work in majors would be even higher.

I kinda pulled out the choice bits. The yankees are at 40 now, but they aren't as overloaded as usual. That said, losing Garret Whitlock last year was among the bigger acquisitions that happened in the offseason.

man this article is terrible and I would imagine none of these guys are close to being either unprotected or the ones selected in a rule 5, however, still interested in this and the deadline to protect is tomorrow

new guy I'd be interested in: Calvin Faucher - TB

25 year old right hander who was rated with best curveball in TB system by BA

I wonder how much longer Micker has on a Sox roster?

Why does it feel like I've been hearing about Micker Adolfo for like 20 years?  The first time I actually saw him on tv, I was shocked at how damn big that man is.  It sure would be fun if the Sox kept him and he made a big developmental leap this year.

He was in same IFA class as Eloy and Gleyber

Jason Bilous and Kade McClure seem like the most likely protection candidates to me. Bennett Sousa, Hunter Schryver and Carlos Perez possible as well. Luis Mieses and Lenyn Sosa are eligible but I doubt anyone would take them. Luke Shilling is very interesting. He's hurt so a team could theoretically take him and stash him.

So they did not protect McClure?  Color me surprised there.

I'm not very surprised. He had a lot of helium last year after the sox instructionals in the fall showed his velo increase, but then he got to pitch with that increase and he was ...fine. If we lose him I'll be bummed, but I don't really want him to pitch in the sox bullpen this year so I guess that answers the question.

I mean, he’s semi-passable starting pitching depth that we don’t have a lot of.  But I guess if they’re optimistic Stiever & Lambert can return to form you can make the argument he’d be 10th on the depth chart so not a huge deal.

damn bmags was on this kwan guy.

He is my tatis :(

Not really. I just wish a rule 5 happened this year (not that Kwan would have been on it, as apparently the guardians are aware of their own system talent)
