Dick Allen 5,836 Posted December 29, 2021 34 years old, $103 million in career earnings. He should have a lot of fun the rest of his life. 3

Sleepy Harold 1,095 Posted December 29, 2021 At least this kills one angle of the "sign Seager and shift Moncada back to 2B" talking point.

Eminor3rd 1,138 Posted December 30, 2021 Good for him. Get the benefit of being a one-franchise guy, being in a spot where hanging around for a few more years wasn’t going to make a meaningful difference on how people perceived your numbers, and being able to be in a financial position where a few extra years of retirement was gonna be worth more than a few extra years of earning.

caulfield12 4,432 Posted December 31, 2021 Initially thought it was KYyLe23 retiring from his moderating fortunes to take a job with Marvel or DC Comics... Adding to the list above Gil Meche, Sandy Koufax and Lou Gehrig (one of those just doesn't fit, haha)

And 2005-2007 was when Ortiz was arguably the most dangerous hitter in baseball…and the Red Sox did lose to the Indians 3-0 before CLE went on to face the Cubs. That said, Ortiz fell off but never quite to the same degree as Posey, of course largely due to injuries/positional risk (Posey) and probably/possibly Ortiz had PED’s in his favor and the increasing likelihood of getting caught.
