I don’t think he’ll be anything more than the 28th man / extra IF insurance for in game injuries.

If we carry 14 position guys, that extra guy is basically not playing.  Leury, Engel, & Sheets will already be struggling for consistent PT and if Grandal gets any DH time that only squeezes the other guys further.

Wonder if we see him starting every day at second base in Charlotte

You have to assume so...although SS would increase his trade value.

If Pollock gets hurt, that pus Leury right back into the outfield mix again.  Of course, Harrison could look like the 2018-20 version.

Yeah this is less about results and more about his swings.

People don't get that.

I like Moncada but the guy from 2019 is gone and is never coming back.

We have to hope we get 2021 Moncada

You crazy bro…it’s spring fucking training and Moncada don’t give a fuck.  Let’s give him two weeks in the regular before we assume he’s somehow going to be worse offensively than on 2021.

As was said earlier, there is correlation between extreme performance in the spring and regular season performance. Moncada's spring has been extreme....and not in a good way.

I'm the one who said that, but I think his 3 year track record of being very good and still being in his prime carries a lot more weight than 30 ST PA's or whatever.

I don't expect Moncada to win an MVP with how he's trending...it's simply that expectations were so high when he signed with Boston and rise to the #1 prospect in the sport.  Devers was a bit under the radar, comparatively.

That said, it took another #1 in Buxton years and years to get his swing and health to this point.

Including today

38 PA

4 H (all 1B)

1 BB

15 K

This is more than just a bad spring.

You're going out on quite a limb, but you did it once before sticking with Giolito.  The odds of going from second worst ERA in baseball to where he is now...would be about the same as Moncada ending up under Josh Harrison's fWAR this year.
