Because the Braves were struggling until July or August last season and won the WS, RH will be mentioning them in his pressers if the Sox continue to struggle. Who knew being under .500 in July is desired WS performance. But just because one fluke happened, doesn't mean another will soon follow. They better either turn it around real soon, or take some action, or there is going to be a lot of meaningless baseball played in Bridgeport this summer.

The Royals' SP today is 0-3 with a 9.11 ERA so I'm looking forward to his 5 IP, 7 K and 1 ER performance today against these losers

The Sox probably have to walk up some stairs to their plane after the game so Tony is probably going to have to give TA the day off.

I do think at a trade deadline you would likely get a solid piece back for each of Graveman and Hendriks. How good of one depends on if Hendriks’s ERA keeps dropping and if he keeps giving up home runs. If he’s back in a groove, that’s not all that different from the White Sox taking on Kimbrel’s deal while giving up a highly drafted piece. Graveman brought back a piece that was a top 6 prospect in the Astros system and who was showing promise at the major league level - for 2 months of control.

Moncada is a tougher one to figure out. A 4-5 WAR 3b has a lot of value, especially with a lot of control remaining. It’s hard to see teams giving up what it would take to get that guy fairly with that amount of control - that’s an Eaton like deal, and that type of deal isn’t always available.

If Lynn comes back strong someone would at least give you a top 10 prospect in their system plus absorb his contract to get him, teams always need pitching and his contract isn’t bad.

If you had to do that though, the combination of affordable pitcher, 1.5 years of control, and high performance is Giolito. He’s a guy who should bring back a true top prospect + others at the deadline.

Thanks for the detailed response. My big problem is that the Sox attempted a rebuild and this is where they are at now, and the only way of 'retooling' now would be giving up a piece that a challenging team wouldn't really want to give up, unless it is just a case of swapping like for like and hoping a change of scenery works. I guess I am just depressed that the 'challenging for a number of season' rebuild appears to have ground to a halt after 2 playoff appearances.

Also, what is up with Engel?  If the dude isn't going to be a great OF, he's not worth playing.  He's been bad out there this year.  The lack of hitting with RISP cost us the game yesterday, but Engel's botched play was the nail in the coffin.

This is exactly right. I don't care what the slumping 2021 Braves did last year. Making comparisons to other teams is nothing but useless and la-la land type of thinking. This team needs to start hitting, but we don't have any idea if or when that will happen. LaRussa needs to go, but that we do know that won't happen.

It is wild how much each of these guys has regressed defensively this year.  Even Engel is putting up some pretty impressively bad D numbers so far.

You would think if the Sox lose tomorrow there’s got to be some changes coming right?

No. If they ( not sure who makes these decisions) need changes they should make them win or lose tomorrow.

Do you really think they would get much for Lynn, Graveman, Hendriks or Moncada based on current form and/or injury records? Not arguing just curious.

And wouldn't Robert, Cease and Kopech be a core you would want to rebuild around?

Hendriks would be very valuable come trade deadline unless he implodes before then.   Moncada is 26. Some teams will definitely offer a decent return for him

I love how you say three of the most valuable assets aren't tradeable, ignore 3 of the next most valuable (AV, Giolito and TA), and completely dismiss the significant value of Moncada and Hendriks, and to a lesser extent Lynn and Graveman.  Good stuff.

If the Sox wanted to go Parkman-mode and tear this thing down, they'd go from the 30th best farm to the best in a hurry.  They would get an absolute kings ransom.  But its never happening.  The Sox could miss the playoffs this year while going under .500 and they're still not going to tear down to the studs.  This team is massively flawed on the position player side - their inability to consistently hit right handed pitching or catch the ball should be a surprise to no one, and the FO decided to mostly sit on their hands this offseason.  Puzzling to say the least, but the performance to date has been worse than anyone could have imagined to this point.
