He's looking like an athlete who wants to play in the MLB. He's about thirty over?

Looks like he's at about 22% body fat or so. Pretty sloppy for a guy allegedly desperate to stick in MLB. If he actually worked hard and got down to around 15% body fat (still can eat and drink plenty at that level...) and worked on his 1B defense he'd have a helluva lot better chance. That he's not even a passable backup 1B really kills any value he has as a end of the 26 man type.

should have just moved him for a PTBN long ago. Poor ass roster management on the edges of the 40 man imo. He burned the bridge to Chicago when he did his little "I'm quitting" shit. They never had any intentions of ever again using him in MLB.

That’s not what burned his bridge to Chicago. He has a lot of issues that will hold him back. As much as I enjoyed his Yerminator performance to start 2021, I’m glad he’s someone else’s problem.

There's a lot to rip him for. But he carried the offense in a way that our 'top guys' have been unable to replicate since. I wish the guy well.

It's hard to be motivated when you do your best and the result is your employer yells at you, implores others to throw 95 MPH league balls at you from 60 feet away, and then permanently blacklists you.

Most workers can quit and go elsewhere. MLB's Anti-Trust exemption makes players slaves with no escape options, living on an Owner's Plantation.

That old school crap doesn't work on modern ballplayers. You just can't yell anymore. Tony just doesn't get the social emotional needs of this era. He needs to be fired.

Mercedes will head to Triple-A for now, but it’s not impossible to see him playing a role for the Giants later this season. He’s a bit redundant with righty Darin Ruf, but the rest of the San Francisco bench leans left-handed. Mercedes crushed lefties last season to the tune of .339/.386/.523 in 70 plate appearances. He did not bring the same oomph against same-handed hurlers, however, hitting just .246/.307/.360 in 175 plate appearances against righties.

Perhaps we can throw baseballs at drunk drivers who fail a breathalyzer test. Wrist slaps don't appear to be working with the "silent" generation.

A nice modern twist on stoning! Great idea. You dah man. But in fairness Yermin doesn't look drunk in the video and there is no evidence he drove anywhere. Just a shirtless dude enjoying some champagne.

It was somewhat petty to try to control/punish Merecedes like that by keeping him in the organization.

At least after last season ended.

They had zero intention of recalling him.  Even with Collins gone, Zavala and then Carlos Perez were 3rd and 4th on the depth chart.

I can understand why he celebrated his departure, even if it also came across as immature.  The Giants are the much better organization to play for right now.  Everything they do has a purpose and plan behind it, both short and long/er term.

You realize slaves were property, had no rights, and couldn't quit. Baseball players are well paid and can leave whenever they liked.

To compare the horrors and depravity of slavery to being a baseball player is disgusting.
