But I agree, if he can keep his homophobic rants down to a minimum, I'd take a flyer on him for 2004. Not as a starter though--he always seemed more effective out of the 'pen. "always seem more effective out of the bullpen" is they key there ghost. When you look back at '95, that was his "breakout" year as far as his 1st time in the bullpen. That was also his best year. Loaiza was mostly a starter anyway in his career. Even hawk said in the broadcast (when loaiza was with the blue jays) that when loaiza figures his stuff out or learns a "new pitch" he is going to be something special. He already had the stuff. He just didn't harnest it. Tarvarez dosen't have the stuff for a starter. His wins compared to Loaizas (before this year.) was almost the same, but that dosent mean anything. I doubt he'd be much more productive than Cotts, Diaz, Rauch, etc. I'd take him over Schoenweiss, though.
