The Oakland A's claimed Michael Rivera on waivers on Friday. Rivera joined the Sox in June of 2003, after they claimed him from the Padres. With the Knights, he hit .310 with 12 HR, and 52 RBI.

Rivera, 27, was designated for assignment by the A's. Rivera was made available when the Sox dropped him from the 40 man roster. With Rivera leaving Charlotte, the Knights called up infielder Tommy Nicholson from Winston Salem.

Ryan Hankins will likely replace Rivera at first base.
