What would you add?

After an off season that addressed most holes on the Sox, What would you upgrade? If we are talking about utility infielder do you realize how far we have come from previous springs? I am still not sold on Contreras as anything but a #5 and I hope he proves me wrong. Health may be the only obvious thing holding us back but if we have a healthy spring I think we have as good a shot as anybody in the division.

I would upgrade the middle infield situation by bringing in someone experienced.

Outfield depth is pretty good.

I would also upgrade the starting pitching depth by bringing in a few more guys on invites.

Those sound a lot more like overhaul suggestions than simply adding one more. The Sox just did an overhaul.

04 Sox SP (62W, 58L), RP (21W, 21L), 34SV 46SVO, 57H, 865 R+

04 Min SP (59W, 46L), RP (33W, 24L), 48SV, 68SVO, 48H, 780 R+

Obvious weakness: +4 by SP vs +13 by SP.

Overhaul: +Hernandez, +Vizc, +Herm

05 Sox SP: (65W, 50L) +15 beats Min rotation

05 Sox RP: (25W, 22L) +3 lags Min pen but good enough to win div.

SOX RP vs RH

Vizc .333O .522S .290A

Adkins .327O .446S .288A

Marte .341O .444S .263A

Cotts .329O .399S .231A

Herm .294O .358S .242A

Politte .273O .312S .208A

Shingo.226O .186S .150A

SOX RP vs LH

Politte .442O .595S .351A

Adkins .397O .579S .327A

Herm .354O .498S .285A

Cotts .342O .519S .269A

Shingo .294O .402S .215A

Vizc .245O .341S .163A

Marte .259O .214S .143A

I think KW will be on the look out for a RP strong vs RH to bump Adkins & Cotts out of the pen.

Quality or winnable start:

7th: Politte vs RH, Vizc vs LH

8th: Herm vs RH, Marte vs LH

9th: Shingo

Poor start:

5th-6th: Adkins or Cotts :puke

For those who said 3rd base, is it just Crede's bat you are unhappy with, or do you guys think he is a poor fielder?

hes not a bad fielder at all its his bat that bothers me..joe's flaw is that long swing he takes at the plate instead of a quick punch but hopefully joe has gotten that swing of his corrected this offseason and can perform the way i believe he can

I am very pleased with the job KW has done in filling holes but if I were able to add anything (dream world) it would be a star shortstop or a Curt Schilling type starting pitcher that could carry the team by shear will during the middle of the summer.

Now, if we're talking reality... My guess is that we'll be looking for a veteran starting pitcher before the trade deadline because you can never have too many of those guys during a playoff run. And, secondly, we'll be looking for a backup shortstop for Uribe as I'm not convinced we have one in the entire organization.
