at least gene was back and actually knew the players and positions.

Not enough for me, the beginning of the game just wasn't the same without the Thunderstruck intro. I didn't get nearly as pumped as I normally do.

They don't do THUNDERSTRUCK anymore???  That's become part of the thread woven into Sox baseball!!!  What do they do now?

I couldn't even tell you. They still do the thing on the big screen with the history of the Sox players but then after that they go into this really light piano music kind of thing. At least thats how I remember it. It is very gay.

Is it Nancy Faust, or some commercial goup?

I think its bboyer@whitesox.com

Don't quote me on that, but thats off the top of my head.  I'll look at my address book tomorrow to verify that.

I don't know if that works or not. I had to email him earlier in the year for a project, and it was bboyer@chisox.com

Let me set this up by saying I obsess over this kind of thing. Someone please confirm Brooks' email as I would love to put in my two cents.

First trip was yesterday, grabbed a kosher dog and got ready for the big show. I knew wills was gone, and most likely "the ticking clock.....sox/tribe......NEXT" along with him.

However, what came next is just a few minor tweaks away from being the best in the city. (*if you want to be suprised, stop reading now*)

this was the lineup:

Start with a very good classical-type piece that showed old photos next to retired numbers, the Old Roman himself, the 1901 "ticket invitation", pierce's baseball card, hall of fame guys, stuff like that. A classic shot of '83 fisk with his mask up if im not mistaken. you get the idea. very nice opening :D

(if anyone knows this track, let me know, its pretty good)

Then it breaks into the video clips, homers, highlights, roof shots, frank putting robin on his back, bo with fisk's retirement cycle, lots of celebrations, old and new, disco demolition night on two non consecutive clips (!)...

All of this is to one outstanding track, the main theme from Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl. Anyone who's seen the bears lineups this past season will recognize it. Clearly :headbang :headbang :headbang

I would not want to be an opposing fan/team for those two minutes in a packed USCF night game...

Then things take a quick trip south coming out of that with Right Now by Van Halen. Let down. Some people were like "eh", but it could be much better.

I like the intros, but I like the original with Thunderstruck way more, with the new intros it would just roll.

Personally, baseball is a team game. If you MUST do lineups this way, I would suggest announcing the team by "units", 4 infielders, then 3 outfielders, then the battery.

No offense to the old "Home Run of the Century" clips, but as far as Sox Pride goes, this really taps into in the history and tradition and captures the character of the club.

:bringit

P.S. I really think Gene Honda, or even Melton, taking over for Wills and putting the ticking clock stuff at the very beginning would set up everything perfectly.

I will post the real name of the pirates track as soon as I get home.

I e-mailed Brook...here is what he said...

Tony,

Thanks for the note.

We will use Thunderstruck at our games. Since the intro is new, we are

still working out some kinks. Right Now by Van Halen works in that

spot

because of how we are using the fireworks and we do not have to switch

to a different song. Our timing is still a little off, but we will get

there.

Thunderstruck will not go away.

Hi Brooks. I just want to start by saying I'm a

life-long sox fan and I think all your work so far

with the sox is awesome. Keep it up. I had a

question about the Opening Day Game Intro. How come

you got rid of Thunderstruck? I always got so pumped

up for the games with that. Is is because we lost

Dave Wills and he was a big part of that? Also, I

always enjoyed the 'Homerun through the Decades', but

must say I love the new player highlights intro.

Kicks butt!

Anyway, best of luck.

Didn't they do something with the Imperial March at some point?  That was pretty sweet.

That would have been an adequate replacement for Thunderstruck. Also, in college fashion, hordesof sox fans chanting "kill, kill, kill" would be nice too.

But ill concede to Steff, Id put up with John Tesh for the intros if the Sox were winning.
