southsideirish Posted March 15, 2006 Share Posted March 15, 2006 Considering that the #1's have never lost in the first round and that #2's very seldom lose in the first round, has anyone here ever bet on the money line on them? Taking a 4 team parlay on the #1's would double your money and a 8 team parlay on the 1's and 2's on the money line would bring a return of 3.3 times your wager. I am just wondering if anyone here has done this before. If not, why would someone choose not to do this? Isn't this as close to a sure thing as you can possibly get? If I had money to gamble with right now, I'd probably do a 4 team parlay with all the 1's. Not the 1's and 2's though, as I think Tennessee is going down. A lot of times if the line is big enough (or small enough), the money line isn't even bettable. Plus the odds would be so s***ty, you'd have to bet a ton of money to even win anything. They are usually available the day of. This is the first time I have ever looked at it this way, so who knows, maybe they don't put a moneyline on those teams. Even if the odds are s***ty (-1000), if you are parlaying 4 teams at those odds you will still double your money. I mean there isn't anything closer to a for sure thing in gambling than that. The odds would be way worse than -1000 anyway even if they were, because like you said a 16 has never beaten a 1. Sports books are not set up to make you money. This is my first year betting on basketball in general and I thought I found a system flaw that I could exploit. I really don't know why more people don't bet on the money line. It may not make as much money as you would like for one gamble, but over the long haul, day in and day out, you will make out pretty damn good. For example I took parlayed UTEP (-800) and San Antonio Spurs (-750) for $500.00. I made $137.50 last night. The night before I took the Clippers (-400) for $536.00. I made $133.59 that night. Just wondering why more people that gamble don't do that instead. It seems like it makes money and you have a much better chance to make money that way. We only have like 15 people in for $25 each, but about 4 or 5 have Gonzaga in the final four, 2 have them in the final game. I like my chances since I got em booted in round 2.
