Right now I think there's only 1 spot for either Ross Gload or Rob Mackowiak (unless a guy like Cintron is traded, but then you need another infielder).

Here's how I see the bench;

C - Blanco or Stewart

Cintron

Ozuna

Then you have 2 spots for Gload, Mackowiak or Terrero, if you carry 11 pitchers (if I added that up right). And I think Terrero is going to be given a good chance to win a backup OF job for the simple fact he can handle CF defensively which Kenny Williams has said was something he needed to address.

Who knows, Kenny could bring in someone else maybe even.

The biggest bench move we can make this offseason is picking up Blanco. He can hit lefties, call a good game behind the plate, and throw out runners. With the way Ozzie likes to sub his players, we need to make sure that AJ has some sort of backup. With the amount of tough lefties we face in our division, this is key.

Take this for what it is, a cheap low risk move. Obviously, this move wasn't meant to be the answer in CF and/or leadoff spot. Last year Anderson was the Sox only true CF, and because of this the Sox outfield D suffered(especially CF with Mack) when Anderson wasn't in CF. He hasn't shown much at the major league level and has awful plate disipline, but he is solid defensively, runs well, is young, cheap, and has some upside(plus he addresses the problem of only having one true CF on the roster). He put up some pretty impressive numbers at AAA last year, so there is still some hope. Finally, Gload and Mack are essentially the same type of player(good hitting lefties with suspect D) so I think the Sox should move one of those guys and make room for either a legit CF or righty who can hit lefties(finding one player to address both would be ideal). He isn't a guarantee to make the roster, so don't get your panties in a bunch if you don't like this guy.

Care to explain why?

He has speed, can lay down a bunt, he's good defensively and he's Latino. Does that sound like Ozzie's kind of player? His chances of making the team are considerably better than you think.

Plain and simple he has done nothing well enough in his career to warrant a roster spot with a perennial playoff team year in year out if they play their cards right. Doing such would not be having luis terrero on the major league roster. Where you two timo backers? How was it enduring two full seasons of a scrub when there where better and cheaper options out there. With terrero we have a cheaper option... but he is clearly not an upgrade over anyone who was on the roster last season ( whoo plays a little defense... and i do mean slightly above average). Be willing to bet anything that he will never be on the white sox major league roster. As aboz said... he has spring training filler written all over him.

In fairness to Terrero, he has under 500 career AB spread out over four seasons. I would say that is a rather limited sample size to determine whether a player is major league calibur or not. Is he going to be a superstar? Of course not, maybe not even an everyday player, but he has the skills needed to be a quality backup outfielder. As for comparing him to Timo, Timo did absolutely nothing average or better. Terrero, as you stated, plays solid D(legit CF) and runs well at the very least. He showed that he can hit a little at AAA last year, so the verdict isn't completely in on that part of his game. If the Sox intend on using him as an everyday player, than they are in trouble. However, if they look to have him on the bench as a solid CF option(a clear weakness from a team that is supposely a perennial playoff team), than the Sox should be fine and might even have a diamond in the rough. Like I said before, it is a cheap low risk move that might or might not turn into anything.

Please.

Mack is very underrated here and it's too bad Ozzie's misuse of him makes people want him off the team or think can be replaced rather easily.

Mack isn't worth the $2.75 mill he'll make in 2007. Esp. when the sox can use that money towards upgrading at SS, LF or CF, and the bullpen. IMO, a 4th OFer /late inning defensive replacement for 3 OF spots, who can excel on defense, steal some bases, hit LHP, play small ball, is more valuable to the 2007 sox than Mack when you take into account salary.

We all bought into the "MAck can play 3b, 2b, and all 3 OF spots". We do have to remember that was with the Pirates, and in the NL. Seeing how little of those spots he played in 2006, Ozzie and staff must not have been very impressed with him at any place other than LF.

IMO, Terrero is a guy more likely to stick than be some AAAA fodder to fill a roster space. Seeing how much the sox have seen him in Spring with the D-backs, the sox scouts likely see something in him that could help them in 2007.

Here was his write up in BA's 2004 Prospect Handbook:

"Terrero's been a tease for most of his career. He ranked #1 in the organization 2 yrs a go and shows flashes of all 5 tools, but can't stay healthy. His thin yet sculpted physique is so tight that it constantly breaks down. He has missed time with ribcage, ankle, groin, hamstring and hamate injuries during the last 3 seasons, then was hospitalized when a blood clot led to swelling in his left arm. On the positive side, he hit for the cycle twice in 2002, then cranked a walk off homer and three run bomb in back to back spring training games and tied for the minor league lead in triples in 2003. Long limbs and good wheels allow Terrero to cover ground quickly in the OF, where he shows a plus-plus arm and on the basepaths. He runs into a lot of outs and barely breaks even stealing bases. He's also over aggressive at the plate. He displays power to all fields but has difficulty laying off bad pitches and racks up too many K's. For all his talent, Terrero has never shown consistent production. Some fear he could turn into another Ruben Rivera."

No doubt the spring training games got the sox attention.

Based off what Joe Cowley is saying, the bench is staying put (Mack, Cintron, Ozuna, and Gload):

The one luxury the Sox have is a deep bench. That won't change, with Alex Cintron, Rob Mackowiak, Ross Gload and Pablo Ozuna all likely to return.

He does mention Gload as the only player from the bench that "might go" because KW feels Gload could start on other teams.
