You are closer than anyone else to Taiwan. You get cracking!

I can speak a little Chinese, and well that's about it.

There was a video on Cheat's Southsidesox though that showed him pitching, so I suggest people check that out if they want to have a look at him.

I think he reached 143KMH on his fastball, which is 89MPH.

White Sox Sign Po-Yu Lin

By Jason Gage

FutureSox.com

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with Taiwanese righty Po-Yu Lin. According to Taiwanese news reports, Lin will receive an approximate signing bonus of $300,000.

Lin, 20, is the second player the Sox have given a large signing bonus to based upon their Asian scouting program in as many years. A 6 ft , 200 pound righty, Lin was clocked in the low 90's when he was coming out of high school. Recent video footage shows that Lin can still reach the 90's while mixing in a bevy of pitches that possess great movement. The footage was not good enough to clearly see the exact type of pitches Lin throws.

The White Sox hope that with time Lin can develop into a front line pitcher like Chien-Ming Wang of the New York Yankees. Lin was the ace of the 2004 Taiwanese National team and most recently played for the Anchorage Bucks of the ABL (Alaskan Baseball League) where he posted a 3.03 ERA in 6 games.

Lin is expected to report to Chicago in time for spring training where he will spend time in the minor league camp. Lin will likely start the season with the Winston Salem Warthogs (High A).

Most Recent Signings from the Pacific Rim:

In 2005, the Sox agreed to terms with Anderson Gomes. Gomes was playing in the Japanese league and eventually received what would be considered 3rd round money (had he been eligible for the amateur draft) from the Sox. Gomes is a world class athlete that is a converted pitcher. He is still very raw (and has had just mediocre production) but may be the most "toolsy" prospect in the entire organization.
