So I am 33 years old and for the last few years the only new music I seem to like is "emo." Cartel, All-Time Low, We the Kings, Jimmy Eat World (have been a fan of them forever), and now a new local Vegas band called The Cab.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I picked up Nirvana "Live at Reading" dvd/cd. Really really good. Great recording both for the audio and video. Probably the band at their best.

Better or worse than "From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah"?

Is it possible for anything to be worse than that album?

You might be the first person I've ever talked to that didtn't like that album. It's certainly not the cleanest live album, but I definitely enjoyed it.

I and a friend of mine enjoy punk rock a lot. So its March Madness and we figured we'd play this game; each of us got 32 picks and we picked 2 of each seed to oppose each other.

4. Patti Smith vs. 13. The Birthday Party

5. Outkast vs. 12. The Thermals

6. Minor Threat vs. 11. The Real McKenzies

7. Big Black vs. 10. Mission of Burma

8. Public Enemy vs. 9. Liz Phair

1. Sex Pistols vs. 16. Lifter Puller

How is each match-up outcome decided?

feats of strength. Duke will fight someone to the death. Then it is decided

I am hard pressed to consider The Who, Outkast, Liz Phair, and Public Enemy as punk music

Some of those are stretching the punk genre a bit, IMO.

I'd say a lot of them are stretching the punk genre :P

Then again, I think there's a clear distinction between Punk and New Wave, and I think there are multiple bands in that list that fall into the New Wave category.

Were just going to debate and come to a consensus until the Sweet 16. After that we'll probably have to confer with outside people. As for stretching the punk genre, the hip-hop acts that were selected seemed punk enough and its interesting to get a few of them in the tournament. We definitely stretched a bit with picks like Leslie Feist, Liz Phair and LCD Soundsystem... but again it makes the tournament a little more interesting.

We worked the victors of round 1 this morning.

ROUND 2

1. The Clash vs. 8. Public Enemy

2. The Velvet Underground vs. 7. Big Black

3. Gang of Four vs. 6. Minor Threat

4. Patti Smith vs. 12. The Thermals

1. Sex Pistols vs. 8. Sleater-Kinney

2. Elvis Costello vs. 10. Gogol Bordello

3. Sonic Youth vs. 6. The Minutemen

4. Husker Du vs. 5. The Buzzcocks

1. The Talking Heads vs. 8. Against Me!

2. Devo vs. 7. Bad Brains

3. The Ramones vs. 11. Jawbreaker

4. X vs. 5. The Pogues

1. The Who vs. 8. Dead Kennedy's

2. The Stooges vs. 10. Blink-182

3. Wire vs. 6. Fugazi

13. LCD Soundsystem vs. 5. The Replacements

The matchups are a lot more interesting now. My picks are still bolded.

Really? That's kind of funny, since everyone I've ever talked to can't stand it. Different tastes, I guess. I do absolutely love Nirvana, though.

I mostly like the energy in it. I think it's a good recreation of what it would be like to have gone to a Nirvana concert in the early 90's, which I was sadly not able to do.
