Training camps start next week.

 

-Cullpepper visits and tries out for Tampa Bay.

-Former No. 1 pick Tim Couch will make one more comeback attempt.

He said the same at this exact time last year but never caught on in a training camp. Couch now claims he's in the "best shape of his life" and has made contact with every NFL team in an effort to find work. He adds that he no longer feels pain in his surgically repaired shoulder.

NFL fined Dolphins LB Joey Porter three game checks for violating the league's conduct policy.

Porter punched Bengals LT Levi Jones in March at a Las Vegas casino. He avoids a suspension, which was expected, but will forfeit roughly $141,000.

Why would he waste his time trying out in Tampa. They got Garcia, Simms, Gradkowski and the rights to Plummer. He should just fly to Atlanta and call it one.

I suppose, but I wouldnt imagine they would be able to offer too much with how many qbs they have on their roster right now.

Im curious if theyre gonna start having clauses in players contracts saying teams dont have to pay the players or take the cap hit if they release trouble makers.

I'm quite certain that any CBA would never allow that. Because what that would do is remove the penalty for signing guys of questionable character. How quickly would people be all over PacMan or Tank if they could sign them and then cut them with no questions asked the first time they acted up? Making it cost teams money is the best incentive teams have to keep their guys in line. Hell, teams could start encouraging overpaid guys to act up if that ever happened.

Ya, I never really thought about that. It kind of sucks for a team like the Falcons because they have soooooooo much money tied up in Vick. With guys like Pacman and Tank, theyre still on their rookie contracts so they wouldnt damage the cap too much.

 

The only other thing i can think of, is if they do it on a case by case basis and the player in question has to have a meeting with Goodall and Upshaw and if the two of them deem a player is just too out of hand they can do something. Or maybe just make them pay part of their salary but not have it affect the cap.

I agree, Culpep doesnt really fit that system like Garcia, I only base that on the offense Gruden runs though.

Help! I was talking to my uncle down in Southern Illinois and he asked me about the Bears. I told him they should be top 3 in the NFC, possible best in the NFC and he went off on me saying that the Bears didn't get better after the Super Bowl. I brought up Darwin Walker and the drafting of Greg Olsen and he never heard of them.

He thinks Stephen Jackson will be the MVP this year. The Rams fans down here are drooling over Orlando Pace losing a bunch of weight and Bulger being re-signed.

The Bears are hands down the best team in the NFC.

I feel like Bulger won't be around as long as he should be because he gets sacked and hit a lot...just a feeling.

 

And don't forget the Bears' addition of Adam Archuleta and the return of Mike Brown to form a really good tandem at safety, in place of Danieal Manning and Chris Harris...oh, we got better. People want to write us off because of Rex Grossman at quarterback...but the Bears went 11-5 with Kyle Orton at QB.

Ah, the NFL preseason...where every team other than Arizona feels like they have a shot.

 

The Rams seem to me like they'll be an ok team this year, but they've been an ok team the last few years. They have everything still there on offense...Bulger, Jackson, their WR corps, Pace (who's still a 32 year old O Lineman no matter how much weight he's lost). Offense isn't the problem though; it's defense. Jackson can't be the MVP if he can't get back onto the Field.

 

The Rams were 23rd overall in defense last year. 28th in points given up per game. 31st in rushing yards given up per game (only team worse than them was the Colts). Tell me where they're going to get the big improvement they need to see on defense this year, and I might buy into them as a playoff team. Anything can happen of course, but San Fran and Seattle both should be fielding some strong teams in that same division, and the Rams have a lot farther to go to reach the Super Bowl than the Bears do.

Since the Super Bowl...

Tommie Harris, Mike Brown and Dusty Dvoracek have returned from injury

We traded for Archuleta and Darwin Walker

We signed Anthony Adams

We locked up both our corners long term

Hester has been moved to offense and from the buzz hes getting in training camp he might actually be a significant boost to the offense

Berrian and Bradley have another year under their belts and Berrian has become a legitimate receiver

We drafted Greg Olsen who was head and shoulders better then every other tight end in the draft and hes looked good at camp so far

The only defensive starter lost is Tank Johnson who had become a negative distraction anyway and with the return of Dusty and Tommie and acquiring of Adams and Walker we are much better at DT this year.

Grossman has his first full season under his belt and is reported to have been working on his weaknesses all offseason

the biggest hit we had as losing Thomas Jones. Benson wanted it and he got it and now he needs to perform but we still have AP and drafted Garrett Wolf which gives us a diverse group of backs.

Also a lot of the younger guys on defense have more experience under their belt, guys like D. Manning, C. Harris and Hillenmeyer.
