Overall I liked the episode, but was disappointed they started the year with a Hurley Flash Forward. I don't really like his character. But that's just MHO. Anyways, interested to see where this is all going. Too bad for the writer's strike that we don't get the full season.

BTW, anyone have any news on the writer's strike?

and who are the Oceanic 6??

well...we know 3 already (Jack, Kate, and Hurley). As far as the other three go....i would guess Sun, Jin and Sayid. I think Desmond will get off the island too but since he wasn't on the plane he wouldn't be considered part of the 6.

couldn't hurley be dead??? This flashforward took place before last year's(with Jack's beard etc...)

It could be anyone. To me it makes more sense that one of the guys that was stopping everyone from getting off of the island is probably the dead person, because no one went to the funeral. Then again that could just be another curveball, and we could have someone who is trusted now, betray the group, and end up being that hated person.

I think had it been Hurley who was dead, Jack wouldn't have given the response to the question of "Family or Friend" (stated by the guy who is in the Levitra commercials, no less) of "neither." I think he would have considered Hurley to be a friend.

I think it has to be Locke or Linus. Jack is clearly broken up that this person is dead, yet he did not consider this person to be a friend. Given that we know in that timeframe that Jack is desperately trying to get back to the island, and that it appears that Locke and Linus have a "special" connection to the island (and therefore might know how to return to it), and that Jack dislikes both of them, I believe it has to be one of the two.

We also know that when Jack said to Kate "I thought you would have gone to the funeral," to which she responded "why would I?" that it was most likely not Sawyer, and it was probably someone who she disliked. At that point, she does not seem to want to admit that it was a mistake to leave the island, or is willing to admit she would like to return (although I believe she eventually will hope to), she would most likely not see any reason to go to either Linus or Locke's funeral.

Also, we know no one attended the funeral...both Locke and Linus' parents' were both dead. Neither of them had very many friends (although Locke seemed to be liked by more people than Linus).

It has to be one of the two....but which one?

I think the person in the coffin is Michael. On the Wednesday scrolling-notes show they said a very popular theory was that the man in the coffin was from New York, and I'm not 100% sure but I think Michael lived in a big city by himself in an apartment before getting Walt. And Jack would be somewhat torn about his death but obviously he is not a friend because Michael sold them to the Others to get Walt back.

It's pretty cool that for the first three seasons we get only flashbacks to show us the past of each character, now it looks like the final seasons we will get flashforwards instead.

maybe its jack's dad in the coffin.

No, Jack read about it in the newspaper. Kate said at the end of season three "why would I go to his funeral"? It's Ben.

The Oceanic six so far are Jack, Kate, Hurley, and like I said probably Ben.

hadn't really thought about it until now but maybe it's Sawyer. I bet in the next few shows it will show that Kate is REALLY pissed that Sawyer went with Locke and didn't stay with her. So..maybe she held onto that anger and refused to go to his funeral. He also didn't have any family to speak of. Just my 2cents

And we all know Sawyer would stick a knife in anyone's back if it meant him getting what he wanted.

I have a crazy speculation for the ending of the show. Could the flash-forwards not necesarily be forward to the end of the show? Could they all get the same feeling about needing to go back to the island, and then the show ends with them finding the island again? Thoughts?

it would not surprise me. they've flipped the storytelling convention already so it would surprise me to see it happen again.

i do think they will eventually pick the show up in present time and all try to return to the island. maybe there are people still there.

it's also neat how they've flipped to the flash forwards in regards to walt's character. people always have alluded to walt being a really important character, but they wondered how you could accomodate a kid who is getting older and bigger quickly. this is a genius way of handling that. my guess is that walt and michael will (for this season at least) be featured totally in flash forwards.

I agree that the future clips are not the end of the show. The rest I don't know. The one thing that is interesting though is that one by one they want to go back to the island.

What I do know is that everytime they said Naomi isn't who she says she is I think, "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!"

I actually think that is how the show is supposed to end. Not sure they will actually find it. But I'll bet they are trying to, and at some point may be close to doing so, and then we get a Soprano's-like ending and it just goes black.

I don't think it is Sawyer, but it could be. When it comes down to it though, I think Kate would go to Sawyer's funeral, even if she hated him for some reason.

I think Sawyer is probably the man Kate referred to when she told Jack "He'll be wondering where I am" or whatever. Could be wrong though- seems a bit simplistic.

The thought of the dead person being Michael is interesting too. I hadn't thought of him.

Ultimately though, the only two people I can think of that Jack would give that "neither" response about is Locke or Linus.

(For some reason I seem to remember that the person in the coffin's last name was a 5-letter name that started with "L". Does anyone else remember this, or is it a figure of my imagination?)

just for everyone Ben and Desmond CANNOT be part of the Oceanic 6 since they were never on the plane to begin with

I would think we know of 4. Kate, Jack, Hurley and Sawyer.

That basically leaves Claire, Locke, Jin, and Sun as the other main characters who were on the flight.

Which ones die or don't return? My guess is Locke does not leave the island.

I guess it could also be Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Claire and Aaron (Claire's baby)?

The Oceanic 6 are Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Jin, and Sun. These are just the six people from the flight that the media knows got back though; more may have returned but been kept secret.

and it is probably one of those not in the 6 that was in the coffin

The funeral home was also in an all-black neighborhood, FWIW, which off the bat made me think it was Michael (although at the time it was jokingly).
