If you buy a movie ticket and want to walk out, but "feel obligated" to stay because you paid for it, you are falling into this trap staying or leaving does not get you the money back There is value in player development. If Toby Hall is a sunk (ie unrecoverable) cost, eat the money and use your resources as well as possible. Either way, you've paid the millions of dollars. Might as well buy into the future. Today's Trib talks about how the Sox are looking strongly at Phillips...as another poster said, Phillips may be about to pull a "Widger," and the Sox are definitely giving him every chance to do so. It is better to cut your losses as soon as possible as well. The more you wait, the longer you lose. NorthSideSox72 Posted March 23, 2008 Share Posted March 23, 2008 I'd hate to throw the money away, but, at this point I think Lucy or Phillips would be significantly better in 2008. And in Lucy's case, that might set him up to learn a bit and be better off in 2009, when he was the likely plan for backup C anyway. And Hall isn't just a little weak, he's looked awful. I think its best they just release him, or DL him, and put Phillips or Lucy on the roster. Phillips is probably the better alternative, for now.
