I have to admit, while being one of Kenny's biggest supporters, that this one looks like it was a mistake. Even if Pena rebounds and turns into a very effective reliever, I would be extremely tempted to deal PK this offseason, while paying $5 million or so of his salary, and having Allen become our everyday first baseman. He is a power left-handed bat at a position of need. Would have enjoyed watching him develop amongst the other young players developing on this team. You have apparently not watched Pena pitch. Good stuff. Very little control of it. Pena has a very high upside as a reliever; any pitcher that cannot control what he throws will get lit up. Almost all of September with Coop, an offseason resting, and a Spring Training with Coop may do wonders for him. He might also fail miserably. Brandon Allen might not turn into anything more than a .750 1Bman, which can be found around pretty much any street corner. He might also turn into a Prince Fielder type of hitter. As mentioned, Beckham slumping has hurt the team as much as anyone, even though most of the hits he has managed have been pretty darn clutch, like against Sabathia and Nathan.
