I'm excited that Apple is coming out with something new because it always cool. But I'll reserve judgment until we find out what this thing does.

Yeah, their products are always so beautifully designed and intuitive to use, that they rarely don't wow everyone as soon as they are launched.

But no one really has any idea what this thing is going to be capable of.

I am excited about this and what its potential may be. I cant afford one right now, but if it is what I hope it might be, I'll find a way for my work to buy one for me :)

I have Two Requests:

Full Mac OS support, not iPhoneOS on steroids

Front Facing Camera (for video conferencing)

On a side note: With the push to move to digital records, I REALLY hope tablets/slates take off as the mode with which medical records are kept. Instead of a room full of paper records, you have a small room with a two servers (redundancy) that upload all the data to an secure off-site location every night, and the doctors/nurses walk around with slates to record data. As I've seen it, the few hospitals I've been too, the records keepers walk around with computers on massive carts.

An easy to use Apple iSlate would do wonders towards moving that direction. There are rumors of Apple reps metting with Cedars-Sinai to discus the potential of a tablet.

Representatives from Apple have visited executives for Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center “three or four times” to talk about the Apple tablet’s potential for medical professionals at Cedars-Sinai, according to entrepreneur Jason Wilk.

Wilk, the founder of a startup company backed by the Y-Combinator incubator group, wrote on his blog that “My Dad plays golf with Cedas-Sanai hospital execs, who say they have been getting frequent visits from Apple about a new device in the last 6 weeks.”

In a phone call, Wilk said the number of visits was “three or four” and that his second-hand information suggested Apple wasn’t yet trying to close a sale, but rather probing for possible uses for the new device, which is almost certainly the tablet computer Apple plans to debut on January 27th.

My doctor's office is run that way. The nurses and doctors all have either laptops or tablets with all of the patient information accessible.

I'm interested in the Eee PC tablet (or something like it) myself. Apple is always too $$$.

oh very nice. I have yet to run across that. All of my family's doctors still use paper charts.

For me, it's all about the interface. It has to be powerful, yet simple. Microsoft does powerful, but wonky. Apple tends to be powerful and elegant/easy to use. That is my hope for the tablet and something I am not sure the Eee PC tablet would have.

As for the price, yea, Apple is pricey. This tablet NEEDS to be around $700 or it wont take off like they hope. My guess is that it's $1000

AppleInsider- Verizon preps for 'big day'

Apple has scheduled an event to introduce its "latest creation" at 10 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Another rumor this week alleged that Verizon Wireless has told its store managers that Wednesday will be a "big day." Boy Genius Report cited an anonymous source as stating the nation's largest wireless provider will hold a "kick off" event this Wednesday, centered around a live Web cast at 1 p.m. Eastern time -- the same time as Apple's event.

The source did not provide any specific details on Apple, but the timing of the event led the Web site to call it a "solid Apple/Verizon connection."

Last week, a report alleged that both Verizon and AT&T are in 11th hour talks to offer connectivity for CDMA and GSM versions of the tablet. There has also been speculation that Apple could announce a Verizon-compatible iPhone at Wednesday's event.

There was one rumor that stated that AT&T exclusivity deal was over and that Apple is working on a CDMA version of the IPhone for Verizon.

McGraw-Hill CEO Confirms Apple Tablet, iPhone OS Based, Going to Be "Terrific"

"Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific."

From technology sales person, you are never going to get to that next level as long as doctors are on the board at hospitals. Technology like electronic records and archives are a must, but the money is spent elsewhere. I have worked with hospitals that have issues with more than just patient records that have denied projects. I worked with a hospital that had a 30 percent error rate of charge codes in a dept and they just wrote it off as necessary evil.

Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet

January 27, 2010

CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden. Oh, come on, you piece of s***! Just stick already!" Middle-of-the-night sources reported that Jobs then began work on double-spacing his Keynote presentation and increasing the font size to make it appear longer.

For those of you who know who Jason Calacanis is....

  • Yes, it's true... I've been beta testing the Apple tablet for the past two weeks and it's amazing.
  • Note to press: No, not going to break my NDA w/ Apple/steve so u can get jump on announcement. It is the most *amazing* device ever.
  • The best part ofthe apple tablet as beta user has been the built in HDTV tuner and pvr, and the chess game.
  • Also, the apple tablet is really amazing for newspapers. Video conferencing is super stable, but nothing new.
  • The price will be 599, 699 and 799 depending on size and memory in apple tablet. Also, wireless keyboard + monitor connection for tv
  • Apple Tablet has thumbpads on each side for mouse guestures, reads fingerprint for security. Up to 5 profiles by finerprint for family.
  • Yes, apple tablet is oled + back has solar pad for recharging, but it really doesn't work quickly. More a gimmic. Verizon+att, wifi yes!
  • Apple tablet's 2 cameras is sick feature for video conferencing: u shoot what's in front of you + yourself. Augmented video conferncing!
  • Apple tablet games are sick. Basically nintendo wii-level innovation. Custom farmville app is insane. Mark pincus is demoing with steve tmmr
  • For background: apple asked me to do press tomorrow on cnbc, cnn, etc. As a pundit they gave me tablet 10 days ago. 3people dropped it off!
  • apple tablet connects to other tablets over wifi for gaming. There will be LAN parties with these things, people playingFirst personshooters
  • ... also, Farmville for Apple tablet is a huge game changer. I know for a FACT Mark Pincus is onstage tomorrow with Jobs.
  • facial recognition apple tablet is nuts. When you hold it up it recognizes you + pulls your desktop/apps, hand to family member it switchs
  • Best feature of Apple Tablet for me is wireless charging via optional base station. Put one in TV room+bedroom. Lay it down its charging

My fiancee's reaction is that it sounds like a feminine product.
